After winning at Wrexham on 9 April, it could be said that Dover were the form team heading towards the National League play-offs.

However, Athletic subsequently drew their next three games before losing at home to Forest Green on Saturday and that match has ended up being a dress rehearsal for Wednesday’s play-off clash at the Crabble Stadium.

Chris Kinnear will have been frustrated to have lost momentum coming into the play-offs, with the team enjoying eight wins from ten matches before scoring just two goals in their final four clashes.

Forest Green’s preparation for the play-offs has been similarly affected and Saturday’s win was the first in seven games, with the wheels well and truly falling off as soon as Cheltenham had kicked clear to be crowned champions.

Adrian Pennock surprisingly left the club last week and Scott Barlett now has the chance to make history by giving Rovers Football League status for the first time in their history.

It was back to basics on Saturday and should be noted that Forest Green have kept four clean sheets in the past nine matches despite a blip in form.

With Dover’s toothless last few games and the fact that the stakes are so high, we are likely to see a cagey encounter which could feasibly end up with no goals at all.

However, for slightly safer betting purposes, we’ll plump for one goal or less being scored on the south coast.
