England’s Euro 2016 adventure has been largely frustrating. Draws with Russia and Slovakia have sandwiched a narrow victory against Wales, with supporters full of trepidation now that the Three Lions have reached the last sixteen.

Roy Hodgson isn’t even pretending that England aren’t favourites for this one, with Iceland entering unchartered territory with the passing of every game and they’re ready for the game of their lives.

However, the bottom line is that the Icelanders have not really played that well to reach this stage of the competition, with a scrambled draw against Portugal being followed by another draw against Hungary before a win against Austria that was scarcely deserved.

Lars Lagerback might have performed minor miracles with the national team after previously doing well with Sweden, although they will have to be at their defensive best to cope with England over ninety minutes and the pressure might eventually tell.

We know that the Three Lions have been continually frustrated in this tournament although they have found the net three times during the group stage and Hodgson is ready to persist with Jamie Vardy who can find scoring opportunities in narrow spaces.

Whether Harry Kane comes back into the team matters little though, with Raheem Sterling potentially recalled and ready to shine despite a horrendous match against the Russians.

It might be nervy but England are ready to eventually make their quality tell and a slender 1-0 win for them looks to be the way forward considering that this scoreline was very nearly achieved against Russia and Slovakia.
