The bookies naturally make Everton warm favourites to win Sunday’s clash against Sunderland, although Roberto Martinez’s team have won just one of their five clashes at Goodison Park.

Watford, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United have all left with something and Sam Allardyce will be confident that he can land something after seeing his team win the Tyne-Wear derby last weekend.

There’s little doubting that Sunderland were the worse team in the first-half against Newcastle before the game changed after the penalty and sending off decision, although the confidence gleaned cannot be overestimated.

Everton have a few injury problems. Phil Jagielka is a big miss in central defence and Seamus Coleman is unlikely to be fit for the game, which means a lack of attacking outlet in addition to having to rejig the right-back position.

We know what to get from the visitors. Robust defending and a team set up not to concede, with Allardyce hoping for Adam Johnson and Jeremain Lens to exploit the Toffees on the break.

Sunderland look way too big at the match prices as you can imagine they can do a hatchet job on Ross Barkley and keeping the England man quiet is a big part of the jigsaw on Sunday.

At the very least, there appears value in getting with Sunderland on the handicap market considering that any Everton victory is likely to be achieved with a slender victory.
