Oxford United booked their place in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final on Tuesday night, with the U’s awaiting a League One opponent in the form of Fleetwood or Barnsley.

The Cod Army have the advantage after a 1-1 draw at Oakwell, with Steven Pressley’s side hoping that playing the second leg at home will help carry them to Wembley.

However, Fleetwood would gladly swap a defeat in this game with League One survival, with the Reds sitting 21st in the table and they have only won one of their past eight matches in all competitions.

Contrast this with Barnsley’s recent resurgence which has seen the Yorkshire side pull right away from the drop zone and Lee Johnson’s team are just five points outside of the play-off places.

Johnson deserves enormous credit for the team’s resurrection after a terrible first half to the season, with the board keeping the faith in their young manager who has now overseen six wins in the past seven games.

Indeed, that 1-1 draw with Fleetwood is the only occasion where Barnsley have faltered recently, although consecutive wins at Bradford and Swindon set them up nicely for this clash and they have to be taken at the prices.

Sam Winnall was on hand to score the winner at Swindon and it has been nine goals in the past seven matches for a young striker who looks determined to finish the season with a bang.
