Betting Tip: Temptress @ 14/1 with coral

The big betting race of the day if big-field handicaps are your thing. I love a crack with fancy odds the reward for finding the winner and, after some careful thought, I’m going to burden the Roger Charlton-trained TEMPTRESS with the selection at the 14/1 on offer with Betfair who are offering five places (Paddy Power are offering six places but go just 10/1 on the selection). She’s the least experienced runner in the field after just six starts, which might be seen as a negative, but time may tell she’s better than a handicapper and is still well treated on her new mark of 98. She sent up 7lb for winning cosily over track and trip on her reappearance and that took her record on fast ground over the straight mile here to 2-2.

Her trainer hinted he would find a Listed race for her next (to earn some ‘black type’ and boost her paddock value), so it’s significant she’s being pitched back into handicap company. Still, given her course record it couldn’t have been too difficult a decision and with James Doyle doing the steering from what is an okay draw in stall 19 – high numbers held sway in last year’s race – she must be thereabouts.

Luca Cumani’s Ayaar was the other one I was interested in ante post, but stall one looks a serious negative and his 10/1 price tag isn’t quite big enough to compensate. Last year’s winner Field Of Dream and runner-up Chil The Kite should again be in the thick of things, although they too could be better drawn in four and ten respectively.
