The Community Shield might be a glorified friendly, although Jose Mourinho is clearly eager to develop a winning habit at Old Trafford and a first piece of silverware would be important to him.

The new Manchester United manager likes to be judged on silverware, with the Portuguese having collected plenty of trophies at various clubs, while he will shortly begin a Premier League assault with the Red Devils.

However, this week’s goalless draw with Everton for Wayne Rooney’s testimonial illustrated that the team isn’t firing on all cylinders yet, while Leicester will approach this game in an offensive manner.

Ahmed Musa is a relatively unknown in these parts, although Claudio Ranieri might have just struck gold with a 23-year-old who scored twice against Barcelona during a recent friendly.

Musa managed 42 goals in 125 appearances for CSKA Moscow before defecting to the English champions, with the Nigerian claiming thirteen goals in twenty-nine games during his final season.

Musa reckons there’s more to come from him and we might see this on the Wembley turf, with Ranieri likely to let him loose and potentially in tandem with Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy.

‘I think I showed what I am capable of doing. I am going to do more of what I do best,’ he said.

‘I think I impressed the fans very much and that was one of my best games. I will do my best to do even more. I am very happy to be coming to the Premier League right now.’

Mourinho will field Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Wayne Rooney in tandem, with the Paul Pogba protracted saga continuing, although it will be a strong team that takes to the pitch.

Even so, that man Musa might have hit the ground running.
