It’s flat racing all the way on Monday with five cards (including Naas in Ireland) for punters to get stuck into and the day’s best bets are in action at Leicester. Both are fillies who have shown shown considerable promise, hail from in-form yards and could offer some value as they are up against rivals from bigger stables.

First up is the James Tate-trained LIGHT AND SHADE, who faces seven others in the extended 1m1f handicap for three-year-olds (due off 3.20pm). It’s a competitive race on paper as all bar one of the runners brings winning form to the table, and in the case of the selection that came on the all-weather at Kempton over a mile last November. The form is nothing special, admittedly, but she won going away and then showed she can handle turf when finding only the useful Zamoura too good on her reappearance at Doncaster in April.

There should be plenty more to come from her band Tate clearly holds her in some regard, saying in a recent Stable Tour: “She’s a lovely big filly and a half-sister to the dual Group 3 winner Lady Gloria. We only got her out in November and she won in good style over a mile. She carried her head a little high, but I wouldn’t suggest for one minute she’s ungenuine. She works nicely at home, but you wouldn’t describe her as flashy. With a filly like this you never know just how good they are so her first run will tell us a bit more, but I am sure she has more to offer.”
