The Ian Williams-trained Freud is going for a hat-trick in the 1m2f handicap at Lingfield (3.10pm) after a couple of Chelmsford wins, but he has much more on his plate now upped a couple of grades and FRANKLIN D looks the one to be on.

Michael Bell’s charge showed some useful form on turf last summer with a Sandown maiden win followed by a runner-up spot in a Newmarket handicap, before rounding off his season by finishing a highly respectable 12th of the 34 runners in the Cambridgeshire back at HQ.

Sent off 5/2 favourite on his all-weather debut over track and trip in November, he gave his backers some anxious moments after being held up in rear off a steady pace and then having to cover a lot of ground on the wide outside to get a clear run. That he still got up near the line is to his credit and, still lightly-raced after just seven starts, he should be capable of better still. Indeed, he looks a likely type for the All-Weather Championships held here at the end of March, with this race an ideal stepping stone.

Jamie Spencer takes ride this afternoon and he’ll be hoping there is more pace on this afternoon (likely) as his mount sees the trip out well, and he can also make the most of a good draw in stall one.
