Sometimes it’s hard to predict the winner of a football match. After all, the result can depend on a lucky deflection, a refereeing decision or a moment of brilliance.

Both Liverpool and Manchester City are capable of the latter, with Pep Guardiola’s team unbeaten for twenty-two Premier League games and counting. The title celebrations are already in the diary thanks to a ruthless track record where the wins have come thick and fast.

The teams met early in September where City ran out 5-0 winners although this owed plenty to Sadio Mane’s red card with the score at 1-0 and Liverpool have a strong track record when it comes to this fixture at Anfield.

The Reds won 1-0 last season and have had lots of prep time for this clash after their FA Cup victory over Everton eleven days previously, with City having met Burnley and Bristol City in cup competitions during that time.

Pep Guardiola claims he couldn’t care too much about the unbeaten league record and City can certainly afford one defeat, while Crystal Palace came close to inflicting it on New Year’s Eve when missing a late penalty to claim the spoils.

However, it will be a first-choice team lining up against a Liverpool side who are beginning a new chapter post-Coutinho after the Brazilian completed a mega money move to Barcelona a few days ago.

At least Virgil van Dijk is an LFC player and the Dutchman shone in his derby debut by scoring the winner and looking assured at the back, with Mohamed Salah expected to return to the starting line-up for this clash.

Liverpool haven’t been beaten at Anfield this season and it’s hard to oppose them considering they have served it up to all opponents although Manchester United and Chelsea are the notable teams who have left with a point.

Backing the draw makes sense and perhaps we can go for a high-scoring draw at that. The 2-2 makes appeal considering how much firepower is on the pitch and we’re happy to take Van Dijk and Nicolas Otamendi as First Goalscorer options considering that both teams seem to struggle when defending corners.
