Luca Cumani's Al can be punters' pal

Betting Tip: Al @ 5/2 with bet365

The second bet is a potential big improver now he steps up in trip. Luca Cumani’s AL showed definite promise in two juvenile starts last season, including when finishing fourth behind subsequent Epsom Derby winner Golden Horn at Nottingham in October. Granted, he was beaten over ten lengths that day but it was only his second start and even the extended mile trip would have been an insufficient test of stamina. He’s bred to come into his own over middle distances and makes his handicap debut here off what looks a very generous handicap mark of 67. His trainer has been amongst the winners of late and he’s booked talented Kevin Stott, who takes a handy 3lb off his back.

Bookmakers have not been slow to spot his potential either and we are being asked to take 5/2 in what looks a competitive contest. However, he’s up against some relatively exposed sorts, not many of which appear to be going forward. I’m already on and will shopping around in the morning with a view to having a bit more on at 3/1 or better.
