Forest Green Rovers have finally made it to the Football League after several near misses, with Lincoln City having also escaped the National League and there will be several clubs hoping to follow in their footsteps next season.

None more so than Tranmere Rovers who will enter their third campaign at this level, although there’s a fierce determination to ensure that the Wirral side regain their Football League status and that effectively means winning the division.

Finishing second or lower means that Rovers would be in the play-offs again and there will be a new layout this season, which could result in a team finishing, seventh actually landing promotion.

Micky Mellon has been back at Prenton Park for less than a year, having replaced Gary Brabin last autumn and he’s been making amendments to the squad ever since. There have been notable departures this summer including Cole Stockton, Michael Ihiekwe and Lee Vaughan, although Oliver Norburn has arrived from Macclesfield and the signing of Adam Buxton has been made permanent.

Mellon has the same budget as last season and the vital fact is that Jay Harris, Ben Tollitt, Jake Kirby and James Wallace will be returning from injury after missing key parts of last season.

Tollitt in particular was a big miss for the final few months of the season, with the exciting young winger likely to take the division by storm this time around and we should note that Tranmere finished second last season despite the various injury setbacks.

At odds of 3/1, some might consider Rovers too short and perhaps the best option is to go down the accumulator filler route with some our other tips.

However, a team at a big each-price is Aldershot Town who also made the play-offs last season and probably have the best manager in the entire division.

Gary Waddock has already achieved promotion with the Shots before and it was a tremendous effort to steer the Hampshire side to fifth last time around.

Waddock has managed to retain practically the entire squad that prospered so much last term and they effectively let themselves down in the play-offs when losing 3-0 at home to Tranmere before a spirited 2-2 draw at Prenton Park.

Odds of 16/1 look excellent from an each-way perspective, with preference given to them over Dagenham, Eastleigh, Hartlepool and Wrexham.
