It’s been a rollercoaster Champions League group stage for Arsenal who gave themselves the proverbial mountain to climb after losing successive matches against Dinamo Zagreb and Olympiakos.

Victory over Bayern Munich offered the Gunners a lifeline and even a thrashing at the Allianz didn’t extinguish their qualification hopes, with a facile win over Dinamo keeping them in contention.

The bottom line is that Arsene Wenger’s team need to win in Greece on Wednesday. Not just any victory either. 1-0 or 2-1 won’t be enough although 3-2 and 4-3 would be fine, while a two-goal winning margin or better would do nicely too.

Injuries don’t help and how dearly Wenger would love a fit Alexis Sanchez for this clash. However, Theo Walcott is back in the squad and so is Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, with Mesut Ozil pulling the strings in midfield and Olivier Giroud scoring at a decent rate of knots.

Olympiakos will be torn between whether to defend their advantage or instead go for the jugular, with an early goal leaving Arsenal needing to chase the game and score at least three times.

It promises to be an exciting match although the London side should register some kind of victory on the evening, irrespective of whether it’s enough to get them over the line.

Many will remember that Monaco defeat last season where Arsenal made a hash of the first leg at the Emirates and were left chasing things in France where they got a 2-0 winning scoreline but were unable to find the killer touch.

Perhaps they will be able to prove their class this time around against a team who wouldn’t fare particularly well in England should they be pitted in the Premier League on a regular basis.
