Glasgow Rangers are two games away from the Scottish Premiership. It’s been a long road back for the blue half of the Old Firm, with the club demoted to the Scottish Third Division following financial irregularities, although they now have the opportunity to renew rivalries with Scotland again.

Stuart McCall is the man tasked with steering them to the top flight, although it was the same man that presided over Motherwell at the start of the campaign before a string of poor results saw the former Bradford manager step down before taking over at Ibrox.

“I’ve got to take a share of the blame for what has happened,” McCall admitted ahead of tonight’s first leg at Ibrox.

“I never once envisioned Motherwell would be anywhere near the bottom.”

He said: “The reason I left was that, after finishing best of the rest three years running, we had a poor start after getting a lot of injuries and I could only see us fighting for that sixth spot.

“I felt that would be a challenge that I just didn’t have in me any more. I didn’t have the energy or drive any more.

“So I thought it would be better to let someone come in and refresh the place.”

Sadly, Motherwell sank towards the foot of the Premier League and now face a Rangers side who have eased past Queen of the South and Hibernian to give themselves a big shot at promotion.

Haris Vuckic could be the man to unlock the Motherwell defence in front of a packed Ibrox, with Motherwell having to contend with the fact that they haven’t played a match for the past fortnight and it could be advantage Gers ahead of the second leg.
