Before the excitement of Wales’ first ever European Championship appearance and Russia’s clash with England, we have the slightly underwhelming fixture involving Switzerland and Albania.

The clash in Lens will see Albania turn out at their first major tournament, having come through a qualifying group partly because of the controversial clash with Serbia.

It’s a modest team that will take to the pitch, although Switzerland will be familiar foe considering several members of their squad are originally from Albania and that includes Granit Xhaka.

Xhaka’s brother Taulant is in the Albanian squad and turns out for Basel, so there will be a derby feel to this clash, with Xherdan Shaqiri having been born to Kosovar Albanian parents.

It is clear that Switzerland are the stronger team of the two, with Vladimir Petkovic able to call upon the likes of Shaqiri, Xhaka and Stephan Lichtsteiner.

However, the Swiss were easily beaten home and away by England in qualifying and look too short to record victory, especially as their opponents recently beat Austria and also narrowly lost against Belgium.

Neither side have a strong striker and a low goals count looks to be on the cards, with any Switzerland win potentially by a slender margin.
