Having made a mint from backing runners from the Ben Pauling yard – A Hare Breath last Friday and his double at Southwell yesterday – I simply have to put in a good word for his SPACE WALKER; the trainer’s only runner at Warwick in the opening handicap hurdle for conditional jockeys (12.40pm).

The four-year-old is making his seasonal reappearance so is up against fitter rivals, but he is on a potentially lenient mark of 110 for his handicap debut after the requisite three runs last season. The best of those came at Newbury on his debut where he was less than three lengths behind the winner and the ground might not have been soft enough for him when finishing a well beaten fourth on his final start at Ffos Las in April.

A decent sort when trained by Harry Dunlop on the flat – purchased for £38,000 by current connections – he was definitely best when the mud was flying, with his only win coming on “soft” ground and it was “heavy” when he finished runner-up at the same venue. Today’s conditions therefore should hold no fears for him and, as mentioned, his current trainer is in exceptional form. Both his Southwell winners were owned by Paul & Clare Rooney and their colours will be carried by the selection.
