After dumping Burnley out of the competition in the previous round, Accrington Stanley have another Premier League opponent who play in claret and blue.

Similarly to Burnley, the Hammers are struggling for form right now, with Slaven Bilic’s side on the receiving end of 4-2 defeats against Watford and West Brom.

It leaves West Ham with just three points from their first five matches, having also lost games to Chelsea and Manchester City, with the manager focusing hard on Sunday’s clash against Southampton.

This is the Hammers’ first match of the season in the EFL Cup thanks to European participation although that was short-lived after Astra Giurgiu claimed a 2-1 aggregate win in the Europa League.

There are clearly defensive issues right now and Accrington will be looking forward to the tie, with Stanley having little to lose from having a crack at their top flight opponents.

Consecutive wins against Notts County and Portsmouth set up Stanley nicely for this clash and there are certainly worst bets than the 14/1 about the League Two side claiming a win.

At the very least, they should give this a decent crack and we can get with the Lancashire side on the handicap market.
