With today’s flat offering looking like a damp squib, I’m going over the jumps in the search of a winner or two.

The action at Worcester is pretty competitive for the time of year and the opening handicap chase for novices over 2m7f (due off 5.10pm) is no exception. All eight runners bring solid recent recent form to the table and a couple are seeking a hat-trick, including bottom weight Foxes Bridge. The seven-year-old is a lazy type who takes plenty of stoking but he responded well to his rider’s urgings at Newton Abbot last time and should make a bold bid here.

However, I fancy the other hat-trick seeker, the Jonjo O’Neill-trained CLUBS ARE TRUMPS, will have his measure. The six-year-old arrives here on the back of a course and distance success and, while he’s been raised 6lb for his troubles, he may well be still ahead of the handicapper. That’s often the case with horses like him who just enough to win and he could not be in better hands as his trainer excels with staying chasers. Will Kennedy, who has already guided him to four wins from his last six starts, is back on board.

Of the rest, I’ve got a healthy respect for Peter Bowen’s Kinari now he’s found his trip. He showed promise in five starts last season but stepped again when upped to 3m at Ffos Las on his comeback and he should be able to pick up a handicap off his current mark. With his stable flying he could be worth a saver.
