With the three-day Newmarket July meeting getting underway tomorrow, I can imagine most punters will be keeping their powder dry today and the racing is moderate it has to be said. However, it could be worth opening your wallet for the following three Yarmouth runners.

I’ll start with the shortest-priced – and dare I say banker – amongst them in the shape of the Charlie Hills-trained HEATSTROKE in the 1m1f handicap. He looked very exciting when hacking up in a Kempton maiden in October 2014 only for injury to keep him off the track until May of this year, when reappearing in a Sandown handicap. Unfortunately, he lived up to his name and got quite warm beforehand so it was to his credit that he closed nicely from well off the pace into fourth, with Saturday’s Sandown winner Secret Art one place ahead of him.

He should be able to build on that and connections certainly think so as they have made some fancy entries for him, including the Group 1 Sussex Stakes and the Betfred Mile at Glorious Goodwood later this month. The former looks very ambitious but the son of Galileo might well be up to winning a big handicap, though he will need to win before long to bump up his current rating (87) and guarantee a run. Today’s the day, as they say.
