Arsenal should be able to contain a toothless Magpies team at the Emirates Stadium tonight
Alan Pardew returns to the touchline on Monday night although that will only afford him a close-up view of yet another defeat against an Arsenal side closing on fourth spot.
Pardew received a stadium and touchline ban for head-butting David Meyler at the KC Stadium several weeks ago, although he’s now taken his medicine and will hope that the return of Loic Remy to the first team can help the visitors get something from the game.
However, while Arsenal are a bit skinny at 2/5 to win tonight’s game, there is every chance that the 11/10 with Sky Bet about the home side claiming victory and a clean sheet will cop.
Arsene Wenger admitted that the end of the season was a bit like Russian roulette although the team played freely at Hull in their last game to register a 3-0 victory.
“It’s easier to be calm in September than in March,” he said. “Because every game is kill or be killed. This period of the season, you feel much more under pressure as a manager. In September, you think, ‘OK, we lost this game but we still have time to catch up’. Now, it’s one, two, three games to go and you look at the table, at the bottom and the top, and everybody plays a bit Russian roulette.”
Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil are back in the team and should link up well with Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud. It’s hard to see Newcastle keeping the home team at bay, with a speculative punt on 5-0 at 29/1 looking interesting.
