Can Watford end their dismal run of defeats when they face Fulham on Friday evening at Craven Cottage?
Friday evening’s live Championship match features Fulham and Watford, the Cottagers enjoying a mini revival of late and looking to inflict further misery upon a Watford side who come into this match on the back of four consecutive defeats.
The Hornets enjoyed a great start to the season, losing a mere two times in their first fifteen outings. Nevertheless, uncertainty off the field has unsettled the team and there has been a rather concerning decline in form of late, the side slipping to seventh in the Championship.
Saying that, the Championship is extremely tight at the moment and Watford sit a mere six points off the top of the table. They possess a wealth of international talent and remain the third highest scoring team in the second tier, Matej Vydra himself managing some seven goals so far this season and Troy Deeney in top form once again.
The hosts have turned their season around in dramatic fashion with Kit Symons at the helm. They now sit four points clear of the drop zone following what was a dreadful opening to their campaign. They have remained unbeaten in all but one of their last eight matches and may even manage a play-off position at the end of the season, something which looked utterly unthinkable only a few weeks ago.
Star player Hugo Rodallega has managed to find the back of the net in each of his last three appearances for Fulham and will cause a problem for the visitors’ rearguard alongside partner Ross McCormack.
The home side are relatively unscathed on the injury front and we expect to see a similar line-up to that which defeated Brighton 2-1 at the weekend. Indeed, Fulham have remained unbeaten by the Hornets since 1998 and taking current form into consideration, this looks unlikely to change on Friday, the hosts full of confidence that a win is there for the taking.
With both sides very much attack-orientated, this should be a thrilling end-to-end encounter. A flurry of goals can be expected, hence the reason why we’re backing Over 2.5 goals tomorrow evening.
Rodallega will be the main threat to the visitors’ defence and we feel that the Colombian is excellent value at 7/4 with 888sport to manage a goal in his fourth successive match.
Fulham have a new-found belief and spirits will be high. Watford will be desperate for a win, however the Cottagers should enjoy a narrow victory. Expect goals for both sides, however also expect the Craven Cottage faithful to go home happy.
