Chris Hughton could be persuaded to return to St Andrews after Lee Clark sacked
Birmingham City have parted company with Lee Clark and it was no great surprise after the Midlands club lost 1-0 at home to Bolton Wanderers on Saturday.
Clark had previously been manager at Huddersfield Town and many were surprised that Birmingham took a punt on the Geordie considering that he failed to get the Terriers out of League One.
The club are now in search of a replacement and Gary Rowett has been installed as favourite although the Burton Albion manager would be something of a gamble and perhaps the Blues will go back to what they know.
Chris Hughton did pretty well at Birmingham before leaving to take charge of Norwich City and he could be tempted to return to St Andrews and revive the fortunes of a club who famously won the League Cup and were relegated from the Premier League in the same season.
BetVictor make Hughton an 8/1 chance to replace Clark, with Brian McDermott the same price and the former Reading manager was more recently in charge at Leeds United before an acrimonious departure.
Rowett seems like a false favourite at 4/1 and it’s hard to see City taking a punt on Owen Coyle at 4/1 considering the Scot was largely a failure at Bolton Wanderers despite doing well with Burnley.
Malky Mackay is an interesting runner at 20/1 although it’s open to debate whether the Scot will come back into management after being disgraced by Cardiff City shortly before he was due to take over at Crystal Palace.
