Cowboys-Redskins Odds

For almost all NFL games, the home team is given 2.5 to 3 points in the spread. But it when comes to the Cowboys and the Redskins, neither side is afraid of playing in their opponent's stadium. When betting on these two teams, make sure to put less emphasis on the home-field advantage in comparison to other contests.

Cowboys vs. Redskins History

The NFC East rivalry between the Dallas Cowboys and the Washington Redskins is one of the oldest in NFL history with the first meeting occurring in 1960.

Cowboys vs Redskins 1

While Dallas owns the regular-season series record (71-45-2), Washington is 2-0 in the playoffs against the Cowboys, winning in 1972 and in 1983.

Great Cowboys-Redskins Games

There have been many upsets in this series history, but none was more significant than Washington beating Dallas in 1995 when they were 17-point underdogs in Dallas. Quarterback Heath Shuler completed 11 of 24 passes for 154 yards as Washington won 24-17 and swept the Cowboys in the season series. Dallas would go on to win the Super Bowl in 1995 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

One of the best games in this NFC East matchup came in Week 1 of the 1999 season. Washington held a 35-14 lead in the fourth quarter before Troy Aikman, and the Dallas Cowboys scored three touchdowns in the final 11 minutes to send the game to overtime. And on the first play of overtime, Aikman hit a wide-open Raghib (Rocket) Ismail for 76-yard game-winning touchdown.

Another memorable meeting between came in Week 2 of 2005, where Dallas held a 13-0 lead with less than four minutes remaining in the contest. Redskins quarterback Mark Brunell then hit receiver Santana Moss on back-to-back long touchdowns to upset Dallas in an epic comeback in Texas.

Infamous Cowboys-Redskins Moments

One of the signature games between these two occurred in 1987 during the players’ strike as the Redskins’ “replacement” players were able to upset Tony Dorsett and the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football. This game was later renamed the “Scab Game” as the strike ended later that week.

In 1989, the Cowboys only win of the season came in November over the Redskins, who finished 10-6. This loss to Jimmy Johnson’s Cowboys kept the Redskins out of the playoffs as the Eagles won the division.

Notable Players

There have been several notable players who have played for both the Cowboys and Redskins during their careers. One of the most famous is Deion Sanders, who played with the Cowboys from 1995 to 1999 before joining the Redskins in 2000. Sanders’ first game against Dallas, he struggled as he muffed two punts and did not look like the All-Pro cornerback many were accustomed to seeing.

Another notable "double agent" from the 1990s was Alvin Harper, who made a name for himself as the Cowboys' No. 2 receiver opposite of Michael Irvin. Harper joined the Redskins in 1997 but caught just two passes for 65 yards before rejoining the Cowboys in 1999.

The latest player to switch sides is running back Alfred Morris, who rushed for 4,713 yards for the Redskins from 2012-2015.

Cowboys vs Redskins 2

Morris was a two-time Pro Bowler in Washington, rushing for 1,613 yards as a rookie. He signed with Dallas in 2016 and rushed for 430 yards in six games, filling in for the suspended Ezekiel Elliott.
