This is the first game between the Raiders vs. Chiefs in 2021. In 2020, these teams went 1-1 against each other with some high-scoring explosive games. The Raiders won the first game 40-32 with the Chiefs avenging later in the season with a 35-31 victory.

While the Chiefs have theoretically righted the ship with two consecutive wins, those W’s came over the lowly New York Giants and the Aaron Rodgers-less Green Bay Packers. Just how “back” this Chiefs team is remains to be seen, but it’s impossible to ignore the drop-off this offense has endured in 2021.

The Las Vegas Raiders defense is exceedingly average, and they aren’t a squad that’s going to slow down an elite offense. If the Chiefs can return to their normal self, they won’t have an issue putting up 30+ points in a dome.

After starting the season 3-0, the Raiders have dropped three of their last five games and were most recently beaten 23-16 by the New York Giants in week 9. Star RB Josh Jacobs hasn’t rushed for over 80 yards on the entire season, and he’s a paramount piece of this Raiders offense if they want to stay consistent.

When the Raiders beat the Chiefs in 2020, they did so with the passing game. QB Derek Carr threw for 347 yards and three touchdowns, and he’ll have every opportunity for an encore against a Chiefs defense that has been bottom of the barrel thus far in 2021. However, Henry Ruggs was the Raiders leading receiver in that game, so they’ll need to pivot and find a new weapon. TE Darren Waller will receive plenty of targets and is an x-factor in this matchup.

This Chiefs vs. Raiders pick is less about the Chiefs and more about the Raiders. With Henry Ruggs and Damon Arnette being forced off the team in a span of two weeks, this is a team trying to find their footing and it showed against the New York Giants. The Chiefs might not be the team we’ve become accustomed to over the last couple of season, but that shouldn’t matter.

The Las Vegas Raiders defense is middle of the road at best and I expect the Chiefs to score 30+ points. It then comes down to the Raiders offense keeping up, and I don’t think it happens. Expect the Raiders to keep this game close for much of the first half before things get out of hand in the second.
