Redskins vs. Giants Odds

For almost all NFL games, the home team is given 2.5 to 3 points in the spread. But like most division matchups, the homefield advantage doesn't mean much between these two teams. And for that matter, the record doesn't mean much either as both sides have completed big upsets both at home and on the road.

Redskins vs. Giants History

The NFC East rivalry between the Washington Redskins and the New York Giants is the oldest rivalry in the NFC East with the first meeting occurring in 1932 when Washington was nicknamed the "Braves."

Redskins vs. Giants Memorable Games

During the 1937 season, the Redskins would play the Giants in New York with the winner going to the NFL Championship game. But before the game, Redskins' owner George Preston Marshall held a parade in New York City with the fans chanting "Hail to the Redskins!" Washington went on to win that game 49-14 and beat the Chicago Bears to win the 1937 NFL championship.

In 1966, the Giants and Redskins played in the highest-scoring NFL game in its history with Washington Redskins winning 72-41. There were a combined 113 points scored in that contest as there were 16 touchdowns scored in Washington.

Another classic game in this rivalry took place on December 4, 2012, as Robert Griffin III led a fourth-quarter comeback on Monday Night Football to defeat the Giants 17-16. That game started an impressive win streak for the Redskins that allowed them to go on to win the NFC East during Griffin III’s rookie season.

Redskins vs. Giants Infamous Moments

One of the worst moments in this historic rivalry took place on November 18, 1985, in a Monday Night Football matchup. Linebacker Lawrence Taylor sacked Redskins quarterback Joe Theisman, and Theisman suffered a gruesome leg injury that ended his career. Taylor didn't intend to hurt Theisman, but it was an ugly moment for both teams.

Another ugly moment in this rivalry history occurred in 2016 as Giants' receiver Odell Beckham Jr. and Redskins' cornerback Josh Norman got into multiple fights on the field.

While the actual game was entertaining, that was just a small subplot of the afternoon as Beckham Jr. and Norman stole the show with their constant trash-talking and fights. That game could be viewed as the beginning of the end of Beckham's time in New York as the on and off-the-field antics began to pile up.

Redskins vs. Giants Notable Players:

One of the most notable players to switch sides was linebacker Sam Huff. For eight years, Huff was one of the best linebackers in the league, as he made four Pro Bowls with the Giants. But in 1964, he signed with Washington and went on to start 60 games for the Redskins. He made the Pro Bowl in 1964 as he had four interceptions for the Redskins.

Another big name that switched sides was former Washington No. 2 pick LaVar Arrington. Arrington made three straight Pro Bowls from 2001-2003 before missing time in 2004 and 2005. He then signed with the Giants in 2006 before retiring after the season.

Safety Landon Collins is the most recent player to switch sides as he signed a massive deal with the Redskins during the 2019 offseason. Collins was originally a second-round selection by the Giants and started 59 games for the team before leaving in free agency.
