Betting Tip: England to beat New Zealand again @ 12/5 with bet365

The match odds for the 2nd Test between England and New Zealand mean you don’t need to go searching for a five-day forecast when it comes to the Headingley contest.

The draw is priced at odds-on twenty-four hours ahead of the match which suggests that a certain amount of rainfall could bring the draw into major contention, although the insider view is that a result might still happen even if there are significant delays.

Modern day Test Match cricket is faster and furious than a generation ago, with overs able to be made up on different days, while England will want to get some momentum ahead of this summer’s Ashes showdown with Australia.

It was a dramatic victory at Lord’s from a new-look England side who were 30-4 during the First Innings before rallying to get 389 on the board.

That total was easily surpassed by New Zealand, who amassed 523 runs although England’s second innings total of 423 meant a difficult target was set for the tourists who fell short and tumbled for 220 runs.

England’s 124 run victory was achieved in unusual fashion, although bet365’s 12/5 that they repeat this win at Headingley merits serious consideration, with the players likely to be brimming with confidence.

It was a character building display, with Ben Stokes chipping in with three wickets as the Kiwis were skittled out, while Stuart Broad also grabbed three wickets and there were four other players that took one apiece.

The players will also be boosted by the announcement of Trevor Bayliss as the new England coach, with Joe Root feeling that this is a significant boost to the team’s hopes of wrenching the Ashes back from the Australians.

“He has a great reputation wherever he has been in the world and has had success,” said Root ahead of Friday’s second Test against New Zealand.

“He has worked with nine of the Australia squad before so that will be an advantage for us.

“I have never met Trevor so it will be a pleasure to do that,” said Root, who made 98 and 84 as England beat New Zealand by 124 runs in the first Test at Lord’s.

“More than anything, it is pleasing to be able to get the chance to work with someone who is so experienced in international cricket and domestic too.”

New Zealand will feel they have a score to settle, although perhaps they were able to take advantage of early nerves during the First Test to work their way into a strong position.

The tourists are a 7/2 chance to level the series, although perhaps England are now going to get their act together, with Bayliss waiting in the wings and the players out to impress the new coach.

Joe Root played a couple of cracking innings at Lord’s and looks a good shout at 10/3 to claim the most runs during England’s first innings in Leeds, although Ben Stokes acquitted himself well and also looks a bet at 10/1.
