The champagne is on ice, with Leicester City on the verge of claiming a first ever league title. The Foxes were runners-up during the 1928-9 season although their only other real success was landing three League Cup titles in 1964, 1997 and 2000.

Sixteen years after that latest success, there’s a Leicester team that surpasses all predecessors, with Claudio Ranieri elevating the Foxes squad to unprecedented levels and they are bound for Old Trafford on Sunday.

This fixture will have particular resonance with Danny Drinkwater, a robust midfielder who started his career with Manchester United, yet failed to make a first-team start with the Red Devils before winding up at the King Power Stadium.

Drinkwater has been a vital cog in the Leicester machine this term and the Foxes look a big price at 11/4 (Sky Bet) to claim three points against a Manchester United team who were hot and cold at Wembley last weekend.

Louis van Gaal has been struggling to get a creative tune out of his team for much of the campaign and scoring goals has been a particular problem despite the emergence of Marcus Rashford.

Wayne Rooney might be back in the fold but the way in which United were overrun by Everton during the second half of that FA Cup semi-final suggests that Leicester could get plenty of joy on Sunday.

Ranieri is without the services of Jamie Vardy again although that mattered little as Leicester enjoyed a 4-0 victory against Swansea and a similar team will be fired up to land the spoils here.

Three points will be enough to secure the title, with Wes Morgan once again expected to expertly marshal a defence that looks secure, while Kaspar Schmeichel looks set to follow in the footsteps of father Peter who achieved all that success with United.

Riyad Mahrez should have plenty of joy in the right-sided position, with the Algerian recently landing PFA Player of the Year award and set to make life difficult for the United defence.
