A Lancashire derby on Friday night and it’s certainly not worth piling in on a Preston side who have gone off the rails in recent weeks.

Alex Neil was talking up his North End side as potential promotion candidates a few weeks ago although a combination of injuries and loss of form means that Preston have slumped pretty badly.

There has been no win from the previous six matches and the last four have ended in defeat, with Sean Maguire now absent for several months after previously making a big impact at Deepdale.

Bolton are moving in the other direction after a string of positive results that have followed a run of eight consecutive defeats. Phil Parkinson’s side have collected nine points from their previous five matches and are now eyeing survival in the Championship.

While the Trotters are yet to win on the road this season, they have drawn half of their eight away matches, with the visitors coming within a whisker of beating Fulham at Craven Cottage before a topsy-turvy 3-3 draw away to Sunderland.

Gary Madine has scored in his past two matches and Adam Armstrong is a loanee from Newcastle with a bright future who can take advantage of a PNE rearguard which has been much-changed in recent weeks due to injuries.

The most logical bet here is to take the visitors and the draw on the Double Chance market and bank on the Preston winless streak continuing. Alex Neil will have had chance to look at things over the international break but morale has dropped significantly.
