Last season was a perfect storm for Eddie Howe and Newcastle United, who won a major trophy for the first time in 70 years in the form of the Carabao Cup before qualifying for the Champions League on the final day.

To say this season has been a disaster would certainly not be an understatement. A big-spending summer saw them splash over £250 million but with just a few games left, the Magpies sit in midtable with just 12 wins to their name. To make matters worse, they lost both derbies to deadly rivals Sunderland and the Black Cats look like finishing above them.

It is certainly a strong possibility that Howe will be replaced at the end of this campaign and now a number of betting sites are offering a Next Newcastle United Manager betting market.

There are some interesting names at the top of the market at most betting apps, representing the uncertain nature of the Newcastle job including Andoni Iraola, Jose Mourinho and Oliver Glasner. Iraola and Glasner are both free agents at the end of this season, but it remains to be seen if they will stay in the Premier League.

Iraola to Swap South for North-East?

Andoni Iraola is doing the sort of job with Bournemouth that the Newcastle board were hoping Eddie Howe could do. Playing attractive football and getting more from the group of players than their level of talent would suggest is possible.

The unfortunate thing for the Magpies is that he’s doing so well it is attracting attention around Europe. Iraola looks like he is off to Bilbao, so even if he was high up on the list of potential candidates they look set to miss out on one of the many in demand Spanish managers on the lists of Premier League clubs.

Mourinho Set For Another Premier League Job

Having already managed three different Premier League clubs across four spells, Jose Mourinho could be a strong consideration for the Newcastle hierarchy. Although not many of the self-proclaimed Special One’s managerial spells have ended particularly cordially, his record speaks for itself and he is currently in the middle of an unbeaten season with Benfica.

The chance to return to England may be too tempting for Mourinho, though, and his expert knowledge of the game would represent a massive coup for the Magpies as they look to become Champions League mainstays.

Glasner Linked to Newcastle

Oliver Glasner will be available this summer, having announced back in January that he’ll be leaving Crystal Palace at the end of the season. In a productive couple of years at Selhurst Park, Glasner delivered silverware for the Eagles and a return to European football.

That kind of profile is sure to be appealing to the Newcastle board. The club has spent plenty of money over the last few years with just an EFL Cup to show for it. Glasner’s track record of delivering trophies would be a welcome addition, but given his criticism of Crystal Palace’s transfer policies, it’s unclear how much of a fit he’d be for the Magpies.

Marco Silva On The Move?

It feels like Marco Silva has been linked with a number of clubs without ever really coming close to leaving Fulham. However, with his contract renewal at Fulham currently unsigned, perhaps this is the season that he does move club.

There could be a feeling that he has taken Fulham as far as he can and may want another challenge. Bournemouth would almost certainly be considered more of a sideways step than a progression in his career, but it would indeed represent a new start. With so little time left on his contract at Fulham, Bournemouth would have to pay minimal compensation too, which could make him all the more appealing.

Return to Management for Xavi?

Xavi has seemingly been linked to just about every available job in football for the last two years after his spell at Barcelona ended in May 2024, but he's yet to grace a dugout with his presence. The Spanish legend won La Liga with the club he played at for over 15 years and will always be a consideration for any Champions League team.

However, there is very little to suggest that he would end his hiatus by moving to Newcastle, a team who are unlikely to be in Europe's elite competition next season and one who could face mass squad overhauls this summer.
