Next Sunderland Manager Odds

It appears that Roy Keane has ruled himself out of the running to manage Sunderland, with the ITV pundit deciding against taking charge of the League One club. The bookies had previously suspended their betting market for the vacancy, although it has now been reopened.

The next Sunderland manager betting market suggests that Alex Neil could take the reins at the Stadium of Light. The former Norwich and Preston manager has experience when it comes to getting the Canaries promoted and would represent a solid pick compared to the other contenders.

Alex Neil is a Free Agent Who Might Interest Black Cats

It's strange to think that Alex Neil is only 40-years-old considering that his first managerial role was with Hamilton Academical between 2013-15. Since then, the Scot has gone on to manage Norwich City and Preston North End although he's currently a free agent and looking for the next opportunity.

Neil didn't take too long to make an impact at Carrow Road and managed to steer Norwich to promotion to the the Premier League during the 2014-15 season, with the Canaries having finished in the play-off positions before overcoming Ipswich and then Middlesbrough to reach the top flight.

Neil's stint with Preston was largely uneventful although he managed to keep the Lancashire club afloat in the Championship and his track record might make him shortlist material to become the next Sunderland gaffer.

McCann Could Make A Quick Return To Managing

Grant McCann was beginning to turn Hull City's season around, lifting the Tigers away from the relegation zone in the Championship. However, the club was sold and the new Turkish owner Acun Ilicali wasted little time in replacing McCann with former Rangers striker Shota Arveladze. Last season, McCann led Hull City to the League One title so he knows what it takes to win promotion in League 1.

McCann was previously in charge of Peterborough and would be regarded as a safer pair of hands than the two candidates at shorter odds in the betting. The 41-year-old has also managed Doncaster Rovers and he has that recent experience of winning promotion to the Championship.

Neil Warnock Prominent in Betting

Neil Warnock is someone who seems immune to retiring from football management and it's plausible that the former Sheffield United and Cardiff manager might find it impossible to resist the chance to take charge of Sunderland and potentially have a final hurrah.

It's clear that Sunderland have recently entered into a slump and perhaps Warnock can come in at the Stadium of Light and bang some heads together. He has a wealth of experience and has a strong track record when it comes to getting teams promoted.

Could Sabri Lamouchi Return to England After Forest Spell?

There are some new names appearing in the Next Nottingham Forest manager betting market and that includes Sabri Lamouchi. The 50-year-old was in charge of Nottingham Forest between 2019-20 and has also had spells in charge of the Ivory Coast national team and Rennes.

Some older football fans will remember Patrick Kisnorbo as someone who played for Leicester City and Leeds United. The Australian international also represented his country on eighteen occasions and currently has a management role Down Under.

Indeed, Kisnorbo has been part of the management staff at Melbourne City since 2016 and has worked his way up to the position of Head Coach. The 40-year-old is apparently interested in the vacant role and we have recently seen Australian coach Ange Postecoglu take the Celtic job against the odds.

Lennon Among Betting Favourites to Land Sunderland Job

Neil Lennon is someone who still has the ambition to be in football management, with the 50-year-old having enjoyed two stints at Celtic as well as positions with Bolton and Hibernian. Having presided over the Old Firm club on two occasions, he knows how to handle a pressurised situation and that is something that exists at the Stadium of Light.

Lennon has been linked with the Black Cats before and perhaps he'll feel as though this is a prime opportunity to make a name for himself as the manager who was able to bring the good times back to the Wearside club.

Is Terry Ready To Start Managerial Career At Sunderland

John Terry has been serving his time as an assistant most notably at Aston Villa where he was an assistant to Dean Smith. He left Villa Park to learn more about coaching and how to be a manager. Only Terry knows if he is ready to start his managerial career. He couldn't ask for a better situation with a club in the hunt for automatic promotion.

While the job of managing Sunderland is clearly a daunting one, Terry was never someone afraid of a challenge during his playing days and perhaps he'll feel this represents an opportunity to take his first proper management job since hanging up his boots.

He might even draw confidence from the way that Frank Lampard was able to get a tune out of Derby County and steer them to the Championship play-offs, with the bookies making him one of the favourites for the job.

Ferguson On The List After Missing Out On Everton Job

Duncan Ferguson missed out on being the next Everton manager after making the final three candidates. But the Toffees decided to offer the job to Frank Lampard. Ferguson, who has been caretaker manager at Goodison Park a couple of times, may wish to continue his managerial career by dropping down to League 1 to take charge of Sunderland.

It would certainly be an interesting appointment given Ferguson's lack of managerial experience. While he has been a useful right-hand man to the likes of Carlo Ancelotti and Rafael Benitez, the Sunderland manager's job has been something of a poisoned chalice for several years.

The weight of expectation from supporters is difficult for any manager to withstand, with Ferguson full of passion but has he got the ability to succeed in the depths of the Football League with a club who feel they should be playing at a higher level?

It's been a successful period for the manager who might be looking for a new challenge. Phillips Would Be A Popular Choice

There aren't many Sunderland living legends who are greater than Kevin Phillips and the 48-year-old had a ridiculously good time of things on Wearside during a playing career which saw him score 113 goals in 248 appearances, many of which were in the Premier League.

Phillips not only helped Sunderland achieve promotion to the top flight but also thrived in the division and the striker was the Premier League top scorer as he formed a lethal partnership with Niall Quinn in attack.

Interestingly, the former Derby County assistant manager is currently in charge of South Shields and perhaps he'll feel this is his time to make an impression at the League One club who have been trying in vain to secure promotion for several seasons.

Edwards Has Proved He Could Manage In League 1

Rob Edwards is a 39-year-old football manager with the world at his feet. He has quickly transformed Forest Green Rovers into a promotion-winning side and it appears that they are destined for League One with or without him. Perhaps Sunderland will make their move for him.

Edwards was the interim manager at Wolves in 2016 before working with the Wolves U-23 side and he then took charge of England Under-16's before persuading Forest Green owner Dale Vince that he was the right man for the job. We expect him to be on the Sunderland shortlist.

Paul Cook Is Currently a Free Agent

Sunderland will be looking for a manager who have a strong track record when it comes to League One and perhaps Paul Cook will enter the club's thinking. Things didn't work out for the 54-year-old at Ipswich Town, although there have been previous achievements

For example. Cook steered Wigan Athletic to the League One title during the 2017/18 season, with the scouser guiding Portsmouth to the League Two title during the previous campaign. He could be the candidate to get a tune out of a squad capable of still reaching the Championship this term.
