Spurs haven't performed as well as was expected in this season's Europa League, however they are within grasp of a place in the knockout stages of the competition. This can be achieved with a win against Partizan tonight.
A victory over bottom placed Partizan is all that’s needed at White Hart Lane tonight. Such a result would send Spurs through to the knockout stages of the Europa League, a decent achievement for a side struggling somewhat in this season’s Premier League.
Away wins against Hull City and Aston Villa recently haven’t diverted from the fact that the North London side aren’t having the best of seasons. Indeed, they sit tenth in the table and their Premier League campaign has ‘inconsistency’ written all over it.
Things haven’t been exactly promising in the group stages of the Europa League either. Ok so they sit at the top of Group C, level on points with second placed Besiktas, however their progression in the competition has more to do with other teams in the group slipping up than Spurs’ own performances.
That said, we expect the home side to get themselves the required win tonight following disappointing draws against Benfica at home and away to Partizan. Indeed, Spurs were firm favourites to win all of their group matches, however they can amend for these less than convincing performances with a win tonight, such a result up for grabs at 2/7 across the market.
Partizan Belgrade have struggled in Group C, their campaign falling to pieces following their opening draw with Spurs with three defeats the outcome of their last three European clashes. Nevertheless they have been steamrollering the opposition in their domestic campaign and hold a healthy six point lead after 13 games. Can they carry that form to North London tonight? Well at 12/1 they certainly aren’t favourites, however Spurs will have a fight on their hands and need to give the visitors all the respect they deserve.
Tottenham will call on Harry Kane to continue banging in the goals, especially since Robertro Soldado and Emmanuel Adebayor have been somewhat below par recently. Kane has amassed eleven goals in all competitions this season, all but four of those coming in this competition and we fancy him to score tonight in a Spurs victory, such a scenario priced at 11/10 at Betfred.
Partisan have been struggling for European goals, however they will have nothing to lose in this match and we expect them to cause the Spurs defence no end of problems. The Tottenham rearguard aren’t in the best of form in the Europa League, leaking goals to both Besiktas and Asteras Tripolis so tonight’s visitors could easily find themselves on the scoresheet. Spurs should win this clash, however Partisan will go home with a goal.
