Auburn vs Texas A&M Predictions, Picks & Betting Preview

Auburn vs Texas A&M Predictions, Picks & Betting Preview

Wait, the biggest game in the SEC this weekend isn’t LSU at Alabama? Indeed, it’s taking place in College Station, Texas.

That’s where Texas A&M hosts Auburn in a matchup of nationally ranked foes at Kyle Field, where the Tigers - get ready for this - have never lost. Indeed, Auburn is a perfect 4-0 in College Station since the Aggies joined the SEC, adding a bit of historical intrigue to what’s already a huge matchup for both programs.

The Tigers enter with plenty of momentum this time around, too, having won four of five. Although Texas A&M has been uneven, this remains the program that took down Alabama. Expect lots of college football betting interest in one of the nation’s top games this week.

Odds are current as of publication. Betting sites may indicate odds changes closer to kickoff.

Auburn vs Texas A&M Key Matchups

Texas A&M’s pass rush vs. Bo Nix: The Auburn quarterback is on the best run of his career. Last week at Ole Miss, he completed 22 of 30 attempts for 276 yards. The game prior against Arkansas, he went 21 of 26 for 292. Texas A&M’s 24 sacks stand second to Georgia in the SEC, and the Aggies will have to pressure Nix into mistakes.

Tank Bigsby vs. Texas A&M’s front seven: One key to Nix’s recent success has been the reemergence of Bigsby, a tailback who rushed for 140 yards against the Rebels. Forcing the Tigers into becoming one-dimensional hinges on the Aggies’ run defense improving upon the 5.34 yards it allows per attempt.

Zach Calzada vs. Auburn’s defense: The Texas A&M quarterback had the game of his life against Alabama, but has otherwise hardly shown the ability to beat opponents on his own. Averaging 170 pass yards per game and completing 55 percent of attempts, he’ll need to be more than a game manager against the Tigers.

5 Key Auburn vs Texas A&M Stats

19-11: Auburn’s record against the spread in regular season games quarterbacked by Nix, who assumed the starting role in 2019.

27-17: Texas A&M’s record against the spread since the arrival of coach Jimbo Fisher, who was hired prior to the 2018 campaign.

7.3: Average number of points by which Texas A&M has gone over the total in games against ranked opponents under Fisher.

24: Lowest number of points Texas A&M has scored in the first half of its past three games.

9.25: Average margin of victory in this series since 2013, with the largest margin being 16 points over that span.

Auburn vs Texas A&M Weather Forecast

Forecasts early in the week indicate that conditions should be about perfect Saturday afternoon in College Station. Expect highs in the upper 60s for the 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff, with lots of sunshine, low humidity and only a minuscule chance of rain. Those making college football picks won’t need to worry about the weather here.

Auburn vs Texas A&M Moneyline

Texas A&M is a -200 home moneyline favorite, according to sportsbooks, while Auburn is a +170 underdog. After falling at home to Georgia (no crime there), the Tigers have opened eyes the past two weeks with upsets of ranked opponents in Arkansas and Ole Miss.

Nix is minimizing mistakes and playing the best football of his career, the run game has come alive, and the defense has been good enough. Despite the Alabama upset, Texas A&M suffers from uneven quarterback play, has shortcomings on defense and is hardly unbeatable at home.

We’ll take these college football odds and Auburn to win straight-up at +170 at DraftKings.

Auburn vs Texas A&M Point Spread

Texas A&M is a 4.5-point favorite, according to betting sites. The Aggies haven’t really been tested since beating Alabama, rolling over SEC bottom-feeders South Carolina and Missouri to stretch their run of covers to three straight. Prior to that stretch, though, Texas A&M had failed to cover in three of four.

Auburn has covered in three of four, with two of those coming against nationally ranked opponents, two coming away from home, and two coming as underdogs - including +4.5 at Arkansas. This is just a better, more balanced Auburn football team right now, and if we like them to win outright in College Station, then certainly we like them to cover. You can get them +4.5 (-115) at FanDuel.

Auburn vs Texas A&M Totals

The total is 50, according to betting apps. Although Auburn has gone under in three of its last four, they’ve also faced some fairly high totals, including 67.5 last week against Ole Miss. Texas A&M has been more consistent in this category, going over in three of four, again helped by weak opponents the last two times out.

Although the Aggies linger in the bottom third of the SEC in scoring offense, they’ve put up 35 or more in three straight, while Auburn has scored 38 and 31 its last two times out. While we’re not expecting a shootout, the offenses are both capable of pushing this total over the number. You can get Over 49.5 (-110) at BetMGM.
