With the Philadelphia 76ers off to a brutal start this season, questions are now being asked about the future of All-Star center Joel Embiid. The superstar has barely played this year due to injuries and a recent run-in with a reporter that led to a suspension. With a recent report indicating unrest in the Sixers’ locker room, there is a chance Embiid could be on the move.

It is worth noting that Embiid cannot be traded during the 2024-2025 league season due to recently signing a three-year, $193 million contract extension, but with rumors about his future in Philadelphia swirling Bookies.com veteran oddsmaker Adam Thompson has put together hypothetical odds about where Embiid could be playing the 2025-2026 NBA season.

If this coming season doesn’t pan out, Embiid may be looking for a new home. Bookies.com veteran oddsmaker Adam Thompson has revealed his NBA futures odds for Embiid’s 2024-25 team.

Potential Landing Spots for Reigning MVP

There’s no denying anymore that Embiid is a special talent. He’s been an NBA All-Star in each season he’s played at least 32 games. The past two seasons he’s paced the league in scoring. In 2022-23, he averaged 33.1 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game.

Philadelphia 76ers (+300)

Let’s face it, while the Sixers are struggling right now, they have too much talent on their team to be this bad the entire season. The odds are the Sixers will turn things around and make the playoffs, and in that scenario, look for Embiid to get back to his All-NBA ways. The odds are that the Sixers will end up keeping Embiid on the roster as he is one of the top players in the league when healthy. That being said, he needs to get back to being the dominant force he once was.

Miami Heat (+525)

The Heat are one of the most popular trade and free-agent destinations, so if Embiid ends up getting traded, he would likely be happy to go to Miami, though they do have their All-Star center in Bam Adebayo already. Still, he could be part of the return in a potential Embiid deal. Still, it will take a ridiculous amount in return for them to move Embiid to a rival such as the Celtics or Knicks.

Los Angeles Clippers (+600)

The Clippers are always mentioned as a potential landing spot for all of the league’s stars, so if the Sixers decide they are open to trading Embiid, expect the Clippers to make a phone call. The Clippers have plenty of veterans on their team looking to get to the NBA finals, and there is no doubt adding a player of Embiid’s caliber would help put the Clippers over the top.

Phoenix Suns (+750)

The Suns have one of the richest owners in the NBA with Mat Ishbia at the helm, and he’s not afraid to make big moves. If Embiid becomes available, one has to imagine the Suns will come calling, especially since the team is in a win-now mode with veterans like Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal on the squad, though exchanging salaries may be an issue here.

Milwaukee Bucks (+850)

The Bucks have been equally as disappointing as the Sixers to start this season, and if they struggle in the playoffs once again, they may try to make a big trade next summer to shake things up. Trading for Embiid to replace the aging Brook Lopez at center could be in play.

Other Possible Contenders

Houston Rockets (+900)

The Rockets have Alperen Sengun starting at center for them, and he’s great, but they are a young team on the rise, and if Embiid becomes available, getting him in a trade in exchange for the team’s prospects and draft picks could put this exciting young Rockets team over the top.

San Antonio Spurs (+1000)

The Spurs have young phenom Victor Wembanyama at center, but if they feel like they can take a big step forward, then acquiring Joel Embiid to pair with him in their frontcourt could be a massive move for the team, which has plenty of draft picks and prospects available to trade.

Brooklyn Nets (+1000)

The Nets are in a rebuilding stage, but they have performed better than expectations so far this season. Armed with young talent and a stash of draft picks, the Nets could make a big swing and try to acquire Embiid from their Atlantic Division rival next year.

Dallas Mavericks (+1400)

The Mavericks were close to winning the NBA Championship last season but came up short. They have struggled so far this year, but are always a contender with Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving on the team. If the team fails to win the title again this year, they could target a superstar like Embiid in a trade next summer.

The Field (+1250)

With 30 teams in the NBA, there are plenty of other squads who could potentially target Embiid in a trade next offseason if the Sixers put him on the trade block.
