Sports bettors may need to Google some of the names in this year’s dunk contest—but those results will produce some incredible YouTube highlight reels of high-flying jams.
While this could arguably be the weakest class of dunkers we’ve seen in some time, that doesn’t mean there isn’t money to be made on betting sites.
This year’s contest includes a guard, two wings, and a big man—so we should see a variety of dunks from these first-timers. No one will mistake this year’s action for Zach LaVine vs. Aaron Gordon, but it’s still one of the biggest NBA betting highlights of the weekend. Here’s how bettors can handicap the event that is currently one of the most even we’ve seen in quite some time:

2023 NBA Dunk Contest Best Bets
Yes, Kenyon Martin Jr. is the son of the first pick in the 1999 NBA Draft. Yes, you should feel old. Martin is a wiry, 6-foot-7 wing who has taken on a larger role in his third season with the Rockets.
Martin is a ferocious dunker who likely has the best hang time of any participants this year. That should give him the ability to do plenty of twists and turns in the air on his way to what we believe will be a Dunk Contest victory.
He may also get some help from Jalen Green, the rising star who participated in last year’s contest (ultimately won by New York’s Obi Toppin). Maybe he’ll even bring out the old man to hype the crowd. Part of the scoring is the entertainment value it brings, after all.
2023 NBA Dunk Contest Value Bet
Everyone will be talking about Mac McClung on Saturday night. It’s either going to be perhaps the best story of the weekend or a major flop. McClung participating in the NBA Dunk Contest is news because, well, he’s not in the NBA.
He’s currently playing for the G-League’s Delaware Blue Coats, but that shouldn’t matter in a contest that requires athleticism and showmanship rather than actual basketball talent. McClung is the shortest player in the contest at 6-foot-2, which could work in his favor as small guys getting up tends to hold more weight with voters.
