2025 Open Championship

Royal Portrush will host 158 of the world’s top golfers for the 153rd edition of The Open Championship, which tees off early Thursday morning (US time) from Scotland.
The course hosted the 2019 Open Championship after a 68-year hiatus, an event won handily by Irishman Shane Lowry. It is known as a difficult course full of sand dunes and strong crosswinds, adding a certain level of guesswork that is often lacking in the precision-based pro golf game.
Despite the myriad challenges, Scottie Scheffler remains the overwhelming favorite to win the final major of 2025.
The Open Championship Odds have Scheffler at +450, well ahead of Rory McIlroy at +750. The only other golfers at +2000 or lower are Jon Rahm (+1200) and Bryson DeChambeau (+2000).

Top 10: Jon Rahm
Odds: -115 at BetMGM
In order to survive at Royal Portrush, one must be able to fight through the winds, keep out of trouble, and not have to be a “go for it” player. The goal is to get to the green efficiently, but also not have your score blow up if it doesn’t. Greens in Regulation and Scrambling can help us determine who has a better shot than others here.
Comparing LIV golfers to the PGA is tough, but Rahm’s comparable statistics make him a prime candidate. Rahm is the best golfer on the LIV, and his stats in key areas all would rank Top 20 on the PGA as well. He’s a gamer who finished 14th at The Masters, 8th at the PGA, and 7th at the U.S. Open.
He’s also finished Top 10 in three of the last four Open Championships, indicating links courses don’t bother him.
Top 20: Russell Henley
Odds: +180 at DraftKings
Henley bombed at the first two majors, but he’s playing his best golf right now. He took 10th at the U.S. Open and 2nd and 5th in his other two prior tourneys. He gets to the green and is Top 10 in Par 4 scoring (a big key on this course). Top 20 is a conservative wager, but the odds make it quite the value.
Top 20: Chris Gotterup
Odds: +250 at DraftKings
Gotterup is coming off a victory at the Scottish Open, used as a tune-up for the Open Championship. Prior to that, he’d finished Top 30 in seven of his last eight events, so he’s playing his best golf right now. Gotterup ranks No. 2 on the PGA in Greens In Regulation percentage and 19th in Scrambling, so his game suits this course better than most. He put that on display last week.
The Open Championship DFS Picks By Price
$10,000 or higher
Jon Rahm ($10,400) has also finished Top 10 in three of the last four Open Championships and remains a premier stay-out-of-trouble ball striker, a big key on this wind-swept dunes course.
Bryson DeChambeau ($10,100) is going to compete to win, and he’s considerably cheaper than Scottie Scheffler, who is rightly the priciest golfer, and Rory McIlroy, who missed the cut last time on this track.
$8,000-$9,999
Collin Morikawa ($8,700) has just one missed cut all year – it was last week at the Scottish Open, so we’re getting a better price than usual on the four-time Top-10 golfer. He’s Top 20 in GIR, a key trait to being successful here.
Justin Thomas ($8,500) has seven Top 10 finishes, and on a golf course that needs success on the Par 4’s to win, only Scottie Scheffler has performed better on those holes. He has yet to fare well at a major this year, however.
$7,999-Under
Russell Henley ($7,900) will be in all our lineups this week. His game is suited for this course, he’s red-hot with the irons and he’s cheap.
Patrick Reed ($7,100) was 3rd at The Masters and won his first LIV event this season in just a few weeks ago. His adept Scrambling stats make him a value play.
Chris Gotterup ($6,900) is a poor 12-of-21 on cuts this season, but he’s on an 8-of-9 run and he’s coming off his first win, the Open Championship precursor Scottish Open. He’s playing well and he’s a “horse for the course” golfer.
