Manchester United have set an unwanted record with the bookmakers ahead of Wednesday night’s clash with Manchester City.

The Red Devils - for so long the favourites in the Manchester derby during the Premier League era - are heavy underdogs for the game at Old Trafford.

And so confident are the bookmakers that title-chasers City will win this clash that some traders have priced United at a staggering 7/1 to win the game.

Bet365 and others, meanwhile, are in the market at 13/2. Never before has the bookmaker priced United so high to lose a home game.

And the football odds expose the confidence punters have in City snatching three points at the Theatre of Dreams.

“Man Utd went off as 8/1 shots to win at the Etihad earlier in the season and now the gulf is such that we see them at 13/2 to beat Man City at home,” Bet365’s Steve Freeth said.

“The Red Devils, under David Moyes, were 11/2 when hosting Pep’s Bayern Munich back in April 2014 – but I cannot recall such a big price about Manchester United winning a game on their own turf.”

United Bang Out Of Form

United head into Wednesday’s showdown in miserable form, having lost six of their last eight outings.

That includes respective 3-0 and 4-0 defeats to Barcelona and Everton within the past eight days.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men are playing their rivals after the fixture was rescheduled due to City’s FA Cup commitments.

This is United’s game in hand, with the Red Devils set to leapfrog Arsenal into fifth place if they beat Pep Guardiola’s men.

But United fans face a conundrum. For while beating City would help their cause for a Champions League spot, it would gift fierce rivals Liverpool the lead in the Premier League title battle.

This is also City’s game in hand over Liverpool, who lead Guardiola’s men by two points with three matches remaining.

City are 4/7 favourites to win the Premier League, with Liverpool at 11/8.
