Roger Federer has seen his US Open title odds slide a day after he exited the Western and Southern Open (also known as the Cincinnati Masters) with a 6-3 6-4 defeat to Andrey Rublev.

Federer was the -835 favorite to beat the Russian Rublev on Thursday and advance into the quarter-finals.

But a surprise two-set loss - his fastest defeat in 16 years - saw the Swiss maestro dumped out of Cincinnati and delivered a blow to his US Open preparations.

The 38-year-old won just 63 percent of his first serve points and was guilty of not putting away crucial break points during the match.

And bookmakers have shifted their price on Federer winning his 21st Grand Slam singles title in Flushing Meadows off the back of Thursday’s wasteful performance.

Bookies odds shift on Federer

Federer was +500 with 888Sports to win the US Open before heading into the Cincinnati Masters. That price has now widened to +700 as bookmakers scramble to attract unconvinced punters back to the market.

Federer has not won the US Open since 2008 and has reached the final just twice since then.

Indeed, the Swiss’ exit from Cincinnati has prompted William Hill to drop favorite Novak Djokovic’s odds on winning the US Open down to +120. Rafael Nadal - who opted out of the Cincinnati Masters after winning the Montreal title earlier this August - has also seen his US Open price move to +400.

Federer is now the third favorite to win in New York, with Alexander Zverev four favorite out at +2200.

Western and Southern Open Betting Shifts

As for the Cincinnati Masters, Djokovic has moved to -200 to win the title after he plays Frenchman Lucas Pouille in the quarter-finals on Friday. The Serb won this tournament for the first time in his career in 2018 and is using Cincinnati as his preparation for a US Open charge.

A swathe of top seed exiting in Cincinnati means 11th seed Roberto Bautista Agut is now the second favorite to win in Cincinnati at +600. His price fell from +4000 after Alexander Zverev - the top seed in Bautista Agut’s quarter of the draw - crashed out to 19-year-old Miomir Kecmanovic.

In the women’s draw, all three of the top seeds have reached the quarter-finals but Simona Halep - second favorite to win the US Open behind Serena Williams - crashed out in the third round.
