The dust has settled on another epic rager in the desert and the contrast couldn’t be more apparent this week, with the Genesis Invitational offering a low-key alternative to chill and soak up the decidedly more high-brow vibes.

Whereas the course layout is an afterthought at TPC Scottsdale, Riviera Country Club is always the star for this event held at one of the most well-respected courses by course architecture enthusiasts and golf betting gurus.

Toss in the most elite field of the year to date, and the stage is set for another memorable week of wagering on the Genesis Invitational in Pacific Palisades, California.

Jon Rahm is the betting favorite for the second consecutive week after a T-10 finish at the Phoenix Open. The World No. 1 has +800 odds on betting sites and betting apps for what will be his fourth career start in this event.

Phoenix Open runner-up Patrick Cantlay is next with golf odds of +1000 after the 29-year-old came up short against Scottie Scheffler in last week’s playoff.

Justin Thomas, runner-up at the 2019 Genesis, is third on the board at +1400, while 2017 champ Dustin Johnson is fourth at +1600.

Best Bet: Sungjae Im Top-10 Finish

Some might be inclined to fade Im this week because he’s 0 for 2 on cuts made in this event. We think that’s a mistake.

Riviera is one of the more challenging courses these guys play all season. It tests every aspect of the game and it’s very rare to see no-name guys get hot for four rounds and win. Players have to be in total control of their golf ball in order to contend, and we can almost always count on Im to do just that.

The 23-year-old is ranked fourth in Strokes Gained Tee-to-Green and had success in his two most recent starts in California, a T-11 at the American Express and a T-6 at the Farmers Insurance Open. Now he heads to a course where his skills can best be put to work, and he already has four top-10s in eight starts this season.

Im has seen the course twice now, he’s playing great in all facets and there’s no reason he can’t turn things around at Riviera and contend this week.

Genesis Invitational Betting Tips

As previously described, this is not your average Tour birdie-fest. Players will face demanding tee shots and approaches on almost every hole, and the big number can come at anytime for those who aren’t sharp from the jump.

Distance is definitely a bonus here, but accuracy is important off the tee as well. Riviera will not favor the bomb-and-gouge crowd. Given the quality of the field and the challenge at hand, we’d recommend staying away from the bottom half of the betting board and focusing on established contenders with strong overall games. This is not the week for the one-trick ponies out of the bargain bin.
