Harry Maguire appears to be edging closer to a big-money move away from Leicester, but could there be a twist on who will finally win the race for the England international?
Maguire has informed Leicester of his desire to leave if the club receive a suitable offer before the close of the transfer window, with both Manchester United and Manchester City leading the way for his signature all summer.
United are the current hot favourites to land Maguire, but there has been some money come in for City to possibly hijack the move at the eleventh hour with the defender open to the idea to joining whichever club agrees a fee with Leicester.
Betfair and Paddy Power have cut the odds on City capturing Maguire from 14/1 (+1400) to 6/1 (+600) overnight in what would be a major last-ditch steal on their rivals United.
As a result of the flurry of money on City, both sportsbooks have seen the price on United winning the chase for Maguire drift out from 1/18 (-1800) to a less-certain 1/7 (-700).
Man Utd’s Maguire Bid
United are reportedly the only club to have made a serious offer for Maguire this summer, but City could still sweep in for Maguire once they know what the price will be to land the defender from Leicester.
The Foxes are holding out for a world-record fee for a defender to surpass the £75million Liverpool paid for Ballon d’Or favourite Virgil van Dijk to sanction a departure for Maguire and meeting that price would be no problem for either United or City.
United have held a long-term interest in Maguire and were strongly linked with the defender last summer following his success with England at the World Cup and missing out on his signature would come as a major blow to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's rebuilding plans.
It appears to be a two-horse race for Maguire with Premier League rivals Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham all rated as 66/1 (+6600) outsiders with Betfair and Paddy Power to sign the former Sheffield United man.
Whether it's Manchester United or Manchester City who secure Maguire's signature it looks likely that his move will be the most expensive deal in the Premier League during this summer transfer window.
