One of the best three-point shooters in the nation is officially on the move, as Iowa State junior Milan Momcilovic has declared for the 2026 NBA Draft ... while also entering the transfer portal.
The move allows Momcilovic, who hit an NCAA-leading 136 threes while shooting 48.7% from behind the arc, to preserve his NCAA eligibility through the May 27 draft withdrawal deadline, prompting the team at Bookies.com to take a look at where the All-Big 12 forward goes from here.
Milan Momcilovic: Stay in the 2026 NBA Draft or Return to CBB?
The nation's best 3-point shooter declared for the 2026 NBA Draft while entering the transfer portal — maintaining eligibility through the May 27 withdrawal deadline.
Milan Momcilovic NBA Draft Odds: Why He Stays in 2026 -130 (56.5% implied)
While Momcilovic doesn’t have to stay in the field for this year’s draft, there’s real upside to him doing so. The rationale for doing so is simple, as the NBA’s evolution towards needing forwards that can expand the floor and shoot the way that he does creates the potential to make an immediate impact at the professional level.
Momcilovic’s shooting percentile numbers (99th in jumpers, 98th in catch-and-shoot, 94th when guarded) translates to today’s NBA offensive flow, helping explain why most NBA mock drafts have him going in either the tail end of the first or early part of the second round.
The other part of the equation is the on-court brain drain that’s already underway in Ames, with Momcilovic’s teammates Tamin Lipsey and Joshua Jefferson already in the portal, dimming the Cyclones’ prospects, regardless of what the three-year starter does this offseason.
That combination of potential NBA upside and Iowa State’s likely lower on-court potential helps explain why we’re giving Momcilovic the best odds of leaving college entirely, pinning it at -130 (or 56.5%) that he stays in the NBA Draft field.

Momcilovic Transfer Portal Odds: Best College Basketball Landing Spots +200 (33.3% implied)
Should Momcilovic opt to stay in college, we’re pretty confident that he won’t do so for the Cyclones. Between reports that have pegged Momcilovic’s NIL market value at up to $3 million for a potential senior season (which is much more than he’d earn on a two-way NBA contract) and the type of teams he could suit up for in 2026, there’s good reason to believe that the Cyclones star won’t be coming back to play for TJ Otzelberger this year.
That’s part of the reason why we’re giving Momcilovic +200 (or 33.3%) odds of coming back for a senior year but going somewhere else via the transfer portal, as the combination of NIL earnings and the chance to play for a national title frontrunner like the Florida Gators or a traditional power like Kentucky presents the opportunity to win a title while also bolstering his NBA Draft prospects in 2027.
Will Momcilovic Return to Iowa State? Why the Odds Are Long +1400 (6.7% implied)
Our third and final option for Momcilovic is to come back to Iowa State for a fourth season with the Big 12 program. This is our most unlikely option, at +1400 (or 6.7%), as the Cyclones are already losing two of their best players, while likely having a tough time ponying up the type of NIL money it’d take to keep the star forward in town for a fourth season.
While Momcilovic has said of his time playing for Otzelberger and the Cyclones: “the last three years have been the best of my life,” it’s hard to see him returning and leaving the amount of NIL money on the table that such a move would imply, not to mention the negative impact it might make on his NBA Draft stock if the Cyclones struggle next season.
Given all the options available, our hypothetical money is on Momcilovic either staying in the NBA Draft or going somewhere else via the transfer portal, with the elite shooter likely wrapping up his time at Iowa State after 102 games and 1,349 points scored in Ames.
