The LSU Tigers sent shockwaves across the college football world Sunday, with the SEC power firing fourth year head coach Brian Kelly on the heels of the program’s 49-24 rout at the hands of Texas A&M.
What started as a match made in heaven between the former Notre Dame, Cincinnati and Central Michigan head coach and the Bayou Bengals came to a head after the Tigers dropped from consecutive 10-win campaigns in 2022 and 2023 to a 9-4 season last fall, followed by a 5-3 dud of a start this fall.
Now, LSU AD Scott Woodward is tasked with finding Kelly’s replacement in Baton Rouge, which got the team at Bookies.com thinking about who the next Tigers head coach may be. With that in mind, here are our hypothetical odds on who the next LSU head football coach will be.

Who Replaces Brian Kelly at LSU?
For now, the top man to replace Kelly at LSU is another head coach in the SEC, with sixth year Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin checking in at +375, just ahead of Louisville Cardinals head coach Jeff Brohm (+550) and Arizona State’s Kenny Dillingham (+650).
In Kiffin’s case, the former Tennessee, USC and FAU head coach has elevated the Rebels from SEC afterthoughts to CFP contenders, with Ole Miss posting three 10-win campaigns since he arrived in 2020, including this year’s red-hot 7-1 start in Oxford.
Kiffin is also expected to be a red-hot candidate for the Florida opening as well.
Jeff Brohm A Name To Watch At LSU
Should LSU opt to go elsewhere to replace Kelly, they could do a lot worse than Brohm, who has a 25-9 (.735) record at his alma mater over three years, including a 10-4 season in 2023 and a 9-4 campaign last fall, followed by this year’s 6-1 start.
Prior to that, Brohm made three bowl game trips in six years with the Purdue Boilermakers and as many postseason trips in his three-year sojourn at Western Kentucky from 2014 to 2016, meaning he’d likely have what it takes to take the ball from Kelly and keep LSU afloat in the ever-competitive SEC landscape.

Kenny Dillingham Also In Mix
Dillingham is one of the youngest head coaches in the Power Four ranks, at 35, though he’s already set a high bar at his alma mater, leading ASU to a 19-15 (.559) mark in Tempe since arriving in 2023, with a CFP berth last season.
Franklin, Dabo Longshots For LSU
Outside of those three current Power Four coaches, keep an eye on recently fired head coach James Franklin (+750) and a host of other FBS coaches like Jon Sumrall of Tulane (+850), Vanderbilt’s Clark Lea (+900), Dabo Swinney of Clemson (+1000), Missouri’s Eli Drinkwitz (+1150), Alex Golesh of USF (+1200) and Iowa State’s Matt Campbell (+1500) when it comes to the LSU coaching carousel this season.
Whichever head coach is next up at LSU has a chance to do great things, as Kelly entered the year as the eighth-highest paid head coach in the FBS, at $10,175,000, with the Bayou Bengals laying claim to four titles overall and a CFP championship in 2019, giving them an extra boost of legitimacy when it comes to landing the right man for the job this time around.
