LAS VEGAS - The Boston Red Sox pulled off the most unexpected win in baseball this season, coming back five times to beat the Chicago White Sox 12-11 in 13 innings. The Las Vegas Aces needed Chelsea Gray to hit buzzer-beating 3-pointers at the end of regulation and overtime to upend Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever 86-84 in OT. But the loudest cheers at the Circa Sports Book last Thursday came when Carolina Panthers QB Haynes King scampered into the end zone to deliver a 33-30 win at the gun in the NFL Hall of Fame Game. The season begins on Wednesday, September 9, with a Super Bowl 60 rematch between the champion Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots.
The Los Angeles Rams come off a 31-27 loss to the Seahawks in the NFC Championship Game as the clear stand-alone favorites to win Super Bowl 61 in our NFL Betting Guide. That game takes place on their home turf at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California on Valentine's Day - February 14, 2027.

The Rams, now +550 according to the OddsJam consensus, were just another Super Bowl pick until they swiped reigning Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett from the Cleveland Browns in June. That acquisition pushed their consensus odds from +800 to +600 immediately. The Rams Super Bowl price has since tightened amid expectation that Aaron Donald ends his retirement this season.
Are 31 NFL Teams Fighting For Second?
In a normal NFL season, the preseason Super Bowl board would be tight, with three or four teams hovering around +750 or +800. This season, the Rams stand alone atop the preseason heap.
"Their price nearly got cut in half after they made those moves on defense," said Jeffrey Benson, who runs the Circa Sportsbook. The Super Bowl champion Seahawks decimated the Rams defense in the NFC Championship Game. Seattle QB San Darnold battled an oblique injury, but hit on 25 of 36 passes for 346 yards, 3 TDs with no turnovers. Meanwhile, Jaxon Smith-Njigba incinerated the Rams secondary with 153 yards and a TD on 10 catches.
The Rams boast the defending MVP at quarterback in Matthew Stafford, in addition to Garrett as the league's top defensive player.
"They were already a good team. Then they go out and get this big acquisition on defense, which makes them even better," said DraftKings Director of Sports Johnny Avello. "Now with all that being said, the NFC West is not easy. Both the Seahawks and 49ers can compete."
But these opening lines are just that, opening lines. Things change quickly in the NFL.
"It's a spread out future book on teams. But this is where we start this season. Where do we go after the first couple of weeks? Are the Ravens going to be OK with a new coach? Is Seattle going to have the performance they had last year? Is this the Bills year with a new coach?" Avello said. "These teams are all good. Rams got a monster schedule. Patriots got a monster schedule. And the Chiefs are probably their highest price that we've had them in forever (+1600) to start the season. There are a lot of unknowns out there. We'll see what kind of adjustments we make after the first couple of weeks."
NFL Betting Trends To Watch This Season
Here's a look at some of the betting trends that have emerged ahead of this season.
10 New Coaches - What Does It All Mean?
Ten of the 32 NFL teams enter this season with a new coach, compared to the start of last season. Perhaps, a 3-14 team lurks, ready to reach the Super Bowl like the Patriots did last season.
“With new coaching and play callers coming into the mix, bettors will want to see how play callers will make decisions on the field," Joey Feazel, Head of Football at Caesars Sportsbook, told bookies.com. "Paying attention to the pace of play or aggressive play calling will have an impact on whether a game goes over or under, in addition to which team will cover more often.”
Big Blue Pulls In Big Bucks
At DraftKings, Avello offers a surprise answer to which team is getting the most play as a potential Super Bowl champion: The Giants. At 70-1.
Why? A new coach in John Harbaugh. An ascendant QB in Jaxson Dart. And both a New York-centric and nationwide fanbase.
"They've taken the most money early to win the Super Bowl," he said. "The Giants are a team on the upswing. They really like the team. The Giants have the potential to make some noise in future years. Backing them in Harbaugh's first year is stretching it a bit. He knows what coaching's all about. He's more of getting-a-team prepared coach than he is a field coach."
Chargers Find Some Love In The Desert
In addition to the Rams, Benson's book has taken in lopsided action on the Chargers and Texans. And the love for those Chargers is simply not because of their relative proximity to Downtown Las Vegas.
"Bettors believe in the quarterback (Justin Herbert) and they're excited about the new offensive coordinator (Mike McDaniel)," Benson said. Jim Harbaugh scooped up McDaniel to run his offense after the Dolphins fired McDaniel as their head coach.
Beware The Orange And Black
At Caesars Sportsbook, the Bengals retain their "team to watch" status. A spot they seemingly hold every year under Burrow.
“We are currently seeing a lot of action come in on the Bengals. (On August 6), we took a $10k bet on Joe Burrow to win the MVP (in Nevada at +900). On the NFC side of things, we are consistently seeing a lot of action on the Chicago Bears and on Caleb Williams to win the MVP. There is a good amount of hype around both of these quarterbacks this summer, and I anticipate it will continue throughout August," Feazel said.
Don't Sleep On The Texans
The Texans dominated on both sides of the ball last season but were - for the second straight season - unable to get out of their own way in the playoffs against the team that eventually represented the AFC in the Super Bowl. C.J. Stroud's four-turnover performance against the Patriots hovers until this iteration of the Texans wins a playoff game. Stroud's passing game will finally feature a fully healthy Tank Dell alongside Nico Collins and sophomore wideout Jayden Higgins.
Benson noted some early play on the Texans. But that's hasn't held elsewhere.
“We have not seen much action on the Houston Texans thus far. Their division is not as competitive as some NFC divisions, such as the NFC North or West, and should give them an easier path to the playoffs if they do," Feazel said. "We all know the old adage that "defense wins championships," and the Texans will clearly have one of the toughest defenses in the league. If C.J. Stroud can get back to playing as well as he did during his rookie season, the Texans have the ability to dominate the AFC and get to the Super Bowl.”
Seahawks A 'Bit Overvalued'
The Super Bowl champions are +1100 to repeat as Super Bowl champions but have since lost significant ground since thumping the Patriots 29-13 in the snoozer that was Super Bowl 60.
“At this point, it appears that the Seattle Seahawks are a bit overvalued. While they did win the Super Bowl last year, they did not improve the roster in the offseason. They were forced to move on from the Super Bowl MVP, Kenneth Walker, and went with the backup to Jeremiyah Love at Notre Dame, which could impact how that offense runs this year," Feazel said. "With a very tough schedule and some just as talented teams within the division, I see it difficult for them to repeat as Super Bowl champions.”
What Do The Numbers Guys Say?
Data scientist Tej Seth and Polymarket trader Judah Fortgang dove into the numbers for the upcoming NFL season at BetBash. They break the NFL teams into four quadrants.
Their top-tier quadrant consists of these eight teams:

Fortgang deems the Patrios as preferred Super Bowl futures play, driven by Drake Maye rapid progression into a top-echelon quarterback, upgrades at wide receiver (A.J. Brown, Romeo Doubs), strong pass protection, and the stability of offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.
Maye struggled in the playoffs last season, but Fortgang believes his play this season will return to its near-MVP levels.
"Maye was first in passing efficiency at every level of the field. Look at what they did his off seasons where they upgraded the wide receiver room," he said.
Drake Maye's profile—elite accuracy, dual-threat ability, and unusually strong performance in tight-window throws under pressure—supports expectations of a top-five offense, while a rapidly improving defense under coordinator Zak Kuhr and emerging talents like Milton Williams, Christian Barmore, and safety Craig Woodson bolster the team’s overall ceiling.
Lions, Bengals & Bears - Oh, My!
The Detroit Lions are another top-quadrant candidate. Concerns center on Jared Goff’s dependence on elite surroundings, the loss and decline of key offensive line pieces, and defensive attrition. The counterargument emphasizes the high floor created by Goff plus Jameson Williams and Amon-Ra St. Brown, and schematic upside via OC's Drew Petzing’s use of pass-heavy multi–tight end personnel.
In the second quadrant, the Bengals remain a tempting choice. They offer combination of a healthy Burrow, a highly efficient designed run game, and a pass-heavy offense built around Jamar Chase’s ability to defeat two-high shells and Tee Higgins’ dominance versus single-high looks, though depth concerns at receiver, pass rush, and linebacker temper their profile.
The Bears emerge as a ceiling play in this tier, thanks to 2nd-year head coach Ben Johnson, a top-five rushing attack, strong pass protection and weapons, and Caleb Williams’ sack avoidance and structured-play success creating a pathway to potentially the best offense in the league if he makes a significant second-year leap.
In the third quadrant, the New York Giants are selected as the preferred Super Bowl futures bet, driven by Dart’s boom-bust but high-ceiling profile (elite big-time throw rate, running and extending plays) and expected year-two development in decision-making and accuracy, combined with a defense that surged after a coordinator change and now features ascending talents like Abdul Carter, Brian Burns, and Marvel Reese.
