What To Know About Doral
After a nearly decade-long hiatus following Cadillac’s departure as a sponsor in 2016, the PGA Tour officially returns to Doral this week. (Interestingly, Doral hosted a few LIV events in recent years, including Marc Leishman's win at LIV Miami just last summer).
Historically, this was a World Golf Championship (WGC) stronghold where elite ball-strikers like Tiger Woods (a 4-time winner) dominated.
Doral is not a "birdie fest." The course has been stretched to a massive 7,739 yards (Par 72) for 2026, making it one of the longest on the PGAT schedule. With water in play on the majority of holes and over 100 bunkers, Bogey Avoidance and Strokes Gained: Off-the-Tee are the primary metrics. You cannot "fake it" around Doral.
Now let's pick 'em!

Cadillac Outrights
Len Hochberg, RotoWire - Cam Young +1250
This seems like a near-perfect track for Young, though his game is so fine right now there are many near-perfect tracks. He's a very long driver who's incredibly accurate, perhaps the most accurate long driver on Tour right now. Young is ranked top-10 in SG: Off-the-Tee, Approach and Tee-to-Green. He followed up his win at The Players with a T3 at the Masters and T25 at Harbour Town.
Thomas Leary, Bookies - Collin Morikawa +1950
Beware the injured golfer. I'm not sure how he's doing it, but Morikawa has posted a T7 at Augusta and a T4 at RBC Heritage with a tweaked back. With a week of rest since Hilton Head, I'll go with the man who (excluding The Players WD) has not finished outside the top 7 since the Waste Management Phoenix Open in early February.
Josh Carpenter, SBJ - Scottie Scheffler +310
Easy to pick the best player in the world, but there are some trends that are hard to ignore. Those first-round struggles he was experiencing early this season seem to be a thing of the past, and he's now posted back-to-back second place finishes. Last year, he showed the propensity to win on golf courses he wasn't familiar with: wins at the PGA Championship, Open Championship and BMW Championship. And we've essentially got a new golf course for most of the field this week at Doral. Couple all that with his elite long iron play and exquisite short game, and he's an easy pick.
Jared Kimble, Bookies - Chris Gotterup +2800
He's a 2x winner in 2026 with the 3rd-best SG:Tee-to-Green in the field and elite driving distance on a 7,739-yard course — the second-longest non-major track on tour. With McIlroy, Schauffele, Fitzpatrick, Åberg, and MacIntyre all sitting out, the field behind Scheffler is wide open. At +2800 the best power profile in a thinned field with two wins already this season is the move.
David Rumsey, FOS - Collin Morikawa +1950
Morikawa has five straight top 7 finishes (not including his WD at the Players) dating back to his win at Pebble Beach in February. Hard to believe the two-time major winner hadn't even turned pro yet the last time the PGA Tour played at Doral, like several of the favorites this week. I put Collin’s chances of winning right up there with Scottie Scheffler’s this week, so I like the value here. Another win sure would put quite the spotlight on Morikawa heading into the PGA Championship, too.

Top 20 Picks
Len Hochberg, RotoWire - Sahith Theegala +182
If the Tour Championship started today, Theegala would be in it. His bounce-back from an injury-lost 2025 season has been strong, with four top-10s and eight top-25s in 12 starts. His big issue remains driving accuracy, and it won't be quite so big of an issue on these forgiving fairways. Otherwise, Theegala's game has been near elite.
Thomas Leary, Bookies - Keegan Bradley +146
After a rough start to the year, Bradley is coming off a T21 at Augusta and T12 at Harbour Town. With Jim Furyk named the 2027 Ryder Cup captain, Bradley should finally start to put Bethpage in his rearview and focus on his play. He's also played Doral a good amount in its previous Tour iteration compared to others in the field.
Josh Carpenter, SBJ - Jake Knapp -102
Knapp's length should play well at one of the longest courses on the PGA Tour. Nine starts on the PGA Tour this season and he's finished in the top 11 seven times, with the other two being on more strategic Pete Dye golf courses (Players, Heritage). This week is a great fit for Knapp.
Jared Kimble, Bookies - Adam Scott +108
Scott won the WGC-Cadillac Championship at this exact course in 2016 — the last time the PGA Tour played the Blue Monster. He's one of only 10 players in this field who played Doral's last event, giving him irreplaceable course knowledge after a decade away. At +108 on a no-cut event, a past Doral champion with elite irons still intact is easy value.
David Rumsey, FOS - Keegan Bradley +146
After a rough start to the season, Bradley shot three rounds in the 60 during his last start in Hilton Head, good enough for a T12 finish. With the strong field, this is a bit of a gamble, but Keegan should be motivated to keep up the momentum heading into the rest of the season.
First Round Leader Picks
Len Hochberg, RotoWire - Adam Scott +3700
At age 45, Scott is still playing near elite levels. He's top-20 in driving distance and club head speed, third in SG: Approach and 11th in Tee-to-Green. He's also ranked third in Round 1 scoring. Importantly, he has an earlier tee time before the wind can fully kick up and a good pairing with Justin Rose.
Thomas Leary, Bookies - Si Woo Kim +3500
This has been Si Woo's most consistent season on Tour, with 5 top-10s already. Opened with a 66 at RBC Heritage.
Josh Carpenter, SBJ - Chris Gotterup +2900
Why not go with the man leading the PGA Tour in first round scoring average this season (67.90)? Ranks eighth on tour in strokes gained off the tee and is also one of the longest players on tour. Should set up well at the Blue Monster.
Jared Kimble, Bookies - Jake Knapp +3400
Knapp leads the field in par-5 birdie percentage and bombs it long enough to attack a 7,739-yard course with three reachable par 5s — and his hot putter gives him the ceiling to go deep on any given Thursday. At +3400 for FRL his combination of elite length, par-5 scoring, and putting is built for a fast start on the Blue Monster.
David Rumsey, FOS - Patrick Cantlay +3300
Cantlay has been trending up ever since the Players Championship with two Top 10s and a T12 at the Masters. While I don’t think he’ll be in the final group on Sunday, I do think he has the potential to get hot on Thursday and grab the opening round lead.

Longshot Picks
Len Hochberg, RotoWire - Gary Woodland +7200
Woodland continues to surprise. Following his remarkable win at Houston, he tied for 33rd at Augusta, where he rarely has played well, then T8 at the RBC Heritage. Now he comes to a track where he can really use the strength of his game. At 41, he remains a driving marvel, ranked second in distance and first in club head speed. And he's also a top-30 putter.
Thomas Leary, Bookies - Gary Woodland +7200
Echoing Len's points above - this number makes little sense to me considering Woodland's form. Look for Gary to make his way onto this fall's Presidents Cup team, too.
Josh Carpenter, SBJ - Sahith Theegala +6700
Theegala is an above average player on approach and has been living in the top 25 for the past month on tour.
Jared Kimble, Bookies - Daniel Berger +9600
Florida native who knows Doral conditions intimately, with a low ball flight that handles South Florida wind. Ranks 8th in SG:Approach over the past three months, and on a course where water on 10 holes punishes wild drives, his accuracy provides a survival edge. At +9600 on a no-cut event, elite irons at a hometown course is way too cheap.
David Rumsey, FOS - Justin Thomas +6200
Feels weird to be electing JT as a long shot, but a win this week would be quite the turnaround from the RBC Heritage, where he beat just three of the other 81 players in the field. Maybe his odds should be even lower.
