PrizePicks Now Offering Kalshi Contracts, Customer Options Limited By State

Kalshi PrizePicks

Kalshi closed an tumultuous week in prediction markets Friday by announcing a multi-year partnership with PrizePicks. The sports entertainment operator now offers Kalshi markets through its platform, although not all contracts will be available nationwide.

This follows news Wednesday that FanDuel Predicts plans to launch in December. Thursday’s alignment between Polymarket and UFC/TKO. A letter sent by regulators in Massachusetts on Thursday to the 7 sports betting operators in the Commonwealth reminding them that sports event contracts are considered illegal there. And a memo from the NFL in which it  “prohibited” some prop wagers, before adding "prediction markets constitute prohibited gambling activity.”

All event contracts now listed on PrizePicks come from Kalshi. The deal gives Kalshi a major platform in PrizePicks that boasts more than 10 million users, and liquidity. PrizePicks gets access to a market-leader in the prediction market space.

“Expanding into prediction markets delivers on what our customers want, innovative products with more ways to play,” Mike Ybarra, CEO of PrizePicks, said in a release announcing the deal. “Together with Kalshi, we will welcome new customers across many states to the PrizePicks experience, and we couldn’t be more excited about the opportunity ahead in this fast-growing space.”

Among the offerings - depending on jurisdiction - are game results, awards shows, and trending cultural storylines.

“As of today, people will be able to access Kalshi’s prediction markets within the PrizePicks app,” said Tarek Mansour, co-founder and CEO of Kalshi. “This is a game-changing moment, and we’re excited to be the first to fuel and supercharge the PrizePicks fan experience.”

Not All Contracts Available In All 50 States

Overall, PrizePicks will offer Team Picks and/or Culture Picks in 38 states and Washington, D.C.

PrizePicks will be following a similar path laid by DraftKings and FanDuel in terms of sports event contracts. Those operators said they will not offer sports events contracts on their prediction markets in states where they currently operate, or in states that have not legalized sports betting.

On its site, PrizePicks shows a map of the United States that is color coded into four categories. None of the 15 states where it now offers sport event contracts has online sports betting. Interesting, this map also excludes California. The nation’s most populous state has yet to legalize sports betting despite several failed attempts.

A similar map showing where one can "make picks on outcomes of real-world events – from politics to pop culture” includes 38 states (and Washington D.C.) but excludes both Florida (which has a sports betting monopoly with the Seminole Tribe through the Hard Rock Bet app) and California.

FanDuel Predicts plans a December launch and will limit its offerings to financial related contracts, in addition to those sports event contracts offered in states without legal sports betting. DraftKings Predictions potential launch date remains a bit more amorphous. That market plans to offer an expanded menu of contracts outside of sports. In addition to sports event contracts where DraftKings does not operate a sportsbook.
