The NFL is a multibillion-dollar industry with fans that enjoy NFL betting and follow the game from around the globe. But which NFL teams are set to receive the most revenue each year from lucrative sponsorship deals and brand marketing?

Analyzing revenue data from 2012-2021, we’ve been able to forecast the future finances of each NFL team, to reveal which will be the wealthiest by 2025 – and which will be bottom of the rich list.

The NFL Team With the Healthiest Financial Forecast

Reviewing revenue estimations across the NFL for 2025, we can reveal that the Dallas Cowboys are set to remain as the nation’s wealthiest NFL team, predicted to earn $1.179 billion annually within the next few years.

In fact, the Cowboys are the richest sports team in the world and are almost on the cusp of breaking the billion-dollar benchmark already, with revenue for this year expected to be valued at $1.022 billion - even after the pandemic prompted around a 20% drop in revenue last season.

Despite not enjoying as much on-field success in recent years, failing to reach a Super Bowl since 2019, the New England Patriots earn second spot on the rich list, with an estimated 2025 revenue of $669 million.

Meanwhile, the San Francisco 49ers come in third, with predicted revenue of $620 million. Incredibly, this figure is more than 2.5 times the amount the 49ers were earning as recently as 2012 ($245 million).

Prior to the pandemic, the New York Giants ($570 million) and Houston Texans ($581 million) ranked fourth and fifth for forecasted revenue by 2025, but updated predictions have them switching places, while the Philadelphia Eagles ($558 million) finish sixth.

Impressively, the Atlanta Falcons’ rise to financial prominence is set to continue in the next five years. The team was bringing in the 26th most revenue leaguewide in 2015, but they are expected to improve further on 2020’s 14th place to earn the seventh-most revenue ($554 million) across the NFL by 2025. This 82% rate of growth in the ten-year period from 2015 is almost on par with the top-ranked Cowboys (90%) and twice that of the second-placed Patriots (41%).

Finally, the Green Bay Packers ($549 million), Minnesota Vikings $545 million), and New Orleans Saints ($542 million) complete the top 10 NFL teams for projected revenue by the midpoint of this decade – the Seattle Seahawks and New York Jets previously placed in the top 10 but drop out after being hit particularly hard by the pandemic.

Which NFL Team Is Rooted to the Bottom of the Rich List?

At the other end of the table, LA might be home to the stars, but the Los Angeles Chargers ($459 million) trail when it comes to NFL riches, set to earn the least by 2025 if trends hold. Interestingly, the Las Vegas Raiders ($476 million) ranked bottom according to pre-pandemic predictions but rise six places with adjusted figures.

Meanwhile, the Detroit Lions, Indianapolis Colts, and Cincinnati Bengals cluster near the bottom, with expected revenue by 2025 of between $467 million and $469 million.

Moving up the list, the Buffalo Bills ($472 million) and Tennessee Titans ($474 million) place just below the Raiders, while Super Bowl LV champion the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ ($487 million) estimated off-field earnings fall short of their recent on-field success. Finally, rounding out the 10 worst-off teams by estimated 2025 revenue, we have the Arizona Cardinals ($492 million) and Cleveland Browns ($497 million).

Methodology

To determine which teams are set to earn the most revenue by 2025, we first studied their earnings from 2012-2021. This data was captured by analyzing Forbes data over the past nine years. We also compared post-pandemic revenue predictions to last year’s forecasts, to plot significant changes in estimations.

The data includes all revenue streams and is the amount published by each team in their annual accounts. Using this data, we ran a forecast function to generate predicted revenue information for the years 2022-2025. From here, we were able to rank each NFL team 1-32, depending on their 2025 projection.

With so much money in the sport, it’s no wonder even the smallest NFL franchises are raking in such astonishing amounts – and it’s only going up. For even more NFL numbers, check out our NFL odds.
