Which NFL Fans Bet the Most During Football Season?

As we focus in on NFL betting with Week 1 approaching, Bookies.com wanted to rank fanbases based on how much they bet on – or against – their favorite team during the season. Using Reddit.com, we polled each fan base located in a state with legalized sports betting apps to see how often each franchise’s fans place bets involving their teams during the NFL season.
This included all types of wagers, whether bet on or against the team, prop bets, etc. We also factored in the official handle size of each state between September 2024 and January 2025, adjusted per capita. The overall score was based on the average ranking between the handle/per capita and poll data, hence a few ties!

Which NFL Fanbases Bet The Most?
New York Giants:
The top of the NFL betting leaderboard last season was a team that finished with one of the worst records in the league, with the New York Giants pulling down the highest overall ranking when considering the team’s handle per capita ($547.68) and fan betting percentage (56.0%).
The amount of money wagered by ‘G-Men’ fans might surprise some, given how New York has mad the playoffs once since 2017, that being an NFC Divisional Round defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles in 2022, though the success of the New York and New Jersey betting markets, handle wise, might explain why the NFC East stalwart ranked atop the NFL when factoring in the two categories used for this story.
While two other NFL teams, such as the Las Vegas Raiders ($1,210.00) and Chicago Bears ($567.33) had higher per capita handles and fan betting percentages (the Cardinals, at 62.5% and the Denver Broncos at 62%), New York’s average ranking across the two categories netted them the top spot in the NFL.
Arizona Cardinals:
While much of the last few years has been a lost cause for the Arizona Cardinals on the field, it appears that the team’s lack of success hasn’t translated into a decrease in Arizona betting interest, as the NFC West franchise ranked second overall when considering handle per capita ($537.53) and fan betting percentage (62.50%).
The Cardinals’ fanbase finished the period in question with the highest fan betting percentage, which likely stems from the Grand Canyon State’s legal sports betting marketplace, which has taken in north of $25 billion in handle since launching in September of 2021, which was the last season that Arizona made the playoffs, reaching the Wild Card Round before falling to the eventual Super Bowl-champion Los Angeles Rams, 34-11.
Buffalo Bills & New York Jets:
Ranking in a tie for third were the other teams that lay claim to the Empire State as their homeland, with the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets finishing ahead of the Denver Broncos, with the both posting an average handle of $547.68, while the Jets had a higher fan betting percentage (56.0%) than Buffalo’s figure of 50.0%.
Needless to say, Buffalo’s been the better team on the field since New York sports betting launched in 2022, as the Bills have made the postseason each year since 2019, while the Jets haven’t qualified since losing in the AFC Championship Game to the Pittsburgh Steelers by a final score of 24-19.
That lack of on-field success obviously hasn’t stalled the Jets’ fanbase betting activities, however, as club ranked among the leaders in our betting rankings ahead of the 2025 season where oddsmakers from DraftKings Sportsbook are giving the club a win total over/under of 5.5, with -155 odds of clearing compared with +130 odds that New York falls short this fall.
Denver Broncos:
After reaching the postseason for the first time since winning it all in 2015 in 2024, it seems like fans of the Broncos have put their money where their collective mouths are, betting wise, with a per capita handle of $518.44 and a fan betting percentage of 62.0%, ranking eighth overall in the former category and second in the latter.
While last year’s 10-7 campaign in the Mile High City represented the club’s high-water mark since that 2015 championship run, it doesn’t appear to be a one-hit wonder, with DraftKings Sportsbook giving the club a win total over/under of 9.5 in 2025, with -110 odds on the ‘under’ and ‘over’ this season.
New England Patriots:
Another club that’s fallen from grace on the field while still placing among the leaders in betting interest is the New England Patriots, who ranked sixth leaguewide with a handle per capita of $521.18 and a fan betting percentage of 44.0%, despite the fact that the AFC East club has posted consecutive 4-13 seasons.
While the Pats’ glory days under head coach Bill Belichick are in the past, it seems like brighter days are upon us in Foxborough, with a preseason win total over/under of 8.5 this season for first-year New England head coach Mike Vrabel, with -120 odds on the over and +100 odds on the under in 2025.

Cleveland Browns:
There’s no denying that the going’s been tough for a long while in Cleveland, with the Browns going 3-14 in 2024 and making two postseason trips since 2003, those being a Divisional Round loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in 2020 and a Wild Card Round defeat against the Houston Texans in 2023.
While the immediate future doesn’t look very bright along the banks of Lake Erie, with a preseason win total over/under of 4.5 on DraftKings Sportsbook for the Browns, reality hasn’t impacted the fanbase’s betting activity, with the team posting a per capita handle of $399.38 with a fan betting percentage of 51.0%, which was the fifth highest total of the 19 teams that play in a state with legal wagering of some sort.
Chicago Bears & Washington Commanders:
The two NFL teams that tied for eighth overall in our sports betting interest standings were a pair of NFC clubs, in the Chicago Bears and Washington Commanders, with the former having a much higher per capita handle ($567.33, versus $399.45 for Washington), while the Commanders’ fan betting percentage dwarfed Chicago’s, finishing at 38.0% to the Bears’ 10.0%.
On the field, Washington’s future looks brighter than Chicago’s with the Commanders coming off a 12-5 season that saw them reach the NFC Championship Game for the first time since 1991, while the Bears went 5-12, winning two fewer games than they did in 2023.
It looks like oddsmakers are expecting a similar outcome this fall, with Washington holding a more prosperous preseason win total on DraftKings Sportsbook versus their Windy City rivals, with the Commanders entering the year with an over/under of 9.5, while the Bears are sitting at 7.5 in 2025.
Baltimore Ravens
One of the league’s postseason regulars rounds out the NFL’s betting top 10 in 2025, with the Baltimore Ravens finishing 10th overall with a per capita handle of $478.96 and a fan betting percentage of 30.0%, finishing ahead of the Cincinnati Bengals and New Orleans Saints leaguewide.
While Baltimore has thrived of late on the field, with six postseason trips since 2018, Ravens’ fans placed five other AFC clubs on our betting leaderboard in 2025, with work ahead of them if they are going to catch Baltimore’s in-state rivals that play down in Landover.
At least Ravens fans can take solace in knowing that Baltimore’s immediate prospects are brighter than that of the neighboring Commanders, with the former holding a preseason win total over/under of 11.5 on DraftKings Sportsbook, two games more than the 9.5 victories that Washington is given this football season.
NFL Betting Trends:
Interestingly, of the top 10 teams in our NFL betting survey, only the Bills, Broncos, Commanders and Ravens reached the postseason in 2024.
The teams outside the NFL betting top 10 included the Super Bowl-champion Eagles, who were 16th leaguewide with a per capita handle of $332.69 and a fan betting percentage of 27.0%, while the Detroit Lions (who lost to Washington in the NFC Divisional Round) were tied for 13th overall with the Pittsburgh Steelers, who fell in the AFC Wild Card Round last year. Of the two, Pittsburgh had a higher per capita handle compared to Detroit (at $332.69, versus $291.22), while the Lions’ fan betting percentage of 41.0% was slightly higher than Pittsburgh’s figure of 36.0%.
Overall, nine of the 14 teams that made the postseason last season played in states with some form of legal sports betting on the books, with the Houston Texans, Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Chargers and Rams and Minnesota Vikings being the exceptions, though Missouri will add wagering in December, giving Chiefs fans added reason for celebration as the NFL season approaches nearer by the day.

What NFL Fans Bet The Most Q&A:
Q1: What NFL Fans Bet the Most During the Season?
A1: According to data collected by Bookies.com, fans of the New York Giants place the most wagers on their team, followed closely by Arizona Cardinals fans. This ranking is based on state reported handle totals during the last NFL season, recorded between September 2024 and January 2025, along with fan-reported betting habits on Reddit.com.
Q2: What NFL Fans Bet the Least During the Season?
A2: Bookies.com ranked teams based on how much their fans are placing wagers on or against the team during the season. Following this, Carolina Panthers fans place the fewest number of wagers on the team, with the Indianapolis Colts fans coming in second to last place in the overall rankings. The Carolina Panthers low ranking could potentially be a result of this past NFL season being the first season with legal sports betting in the state of North Carolina. As the market matures, Bookies.com believes the Panthers could rise in rankings as Carolinians have shown a strong preference for sports betting compared to other states with legal betting.
