The trajectory for the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft will be decided with the No. 3 overall pick.

The Detroit Lions, who own the selection, could go with the best cornerback in the draft, the top linebacker, even the best defensive tackle is a possibility. Or they could trade down to one of several teams looking to move up and secure their quarterback of the future. Whatever they choose to do also could affect NFL betting on the draft.

PointsBet has oddson which player will ultimately come off the board at No. 3:

Odds To Be No. 3 Pick In The 2020 NFL Draft

Player, School Odds
Tua Tagovailoa, QB, Alabama-115
Jeff Okudah, CB, Ohio State+175
Chase Young, Edge, Ohio State +325
Isaiah Simmons, LB, Clemson+500
Jedrick Wills, OL, Alabama+1800
Justin Herbert, QB, Oregon+2000
Joe Burrow, QB, LSU+8500

All odds are current as of publication and subject to change.

Bookies.com breaks down the list and reveals its No. 3 pick.

Who Will Be Taken Before No. 3

Joe Burrow is on this list in the unlikely event he doesn’t get taken No. 1 or No. 2. That’s not happening — he’s going No. 1 — so let’s confidently take him out of the running.

No. 2 has become less clear as the draft has drawn closer. Chase Young was the near-consensus to go to the Washington Redskins, but Tua Tagovailoa’s name has been tossed around as going here with the team moving on from Dwayne Haskins after just one season. The Dolphins, reportedly very high on Tagovailoa, have inquired about moving up from No. 5 to make sure they land him.

I think it’s still Young at No. 2, and to Washington. He’s a special talent and a plug-and-play guy. Washington needs help just about everywhere, and they shouldn’t give up on Haskins this quickly.

Fade The Favorite

2020 NFL Draft: Odds & Top Pick For Who Is Taken At No. 3 1
Clemson linebacker Isaiah Simmons could be a wild card at No. 3. He has been moving up draft boards.

The Dolphins, Chargers and Jaguars have been in conversations regarding moving up to No. 3 to nab a QB. More often than not, that QB is Tagovailoa.

Miami is the best bet to make that trade. The Dolphins have three No. 1 picks and can give up two of them, including No. 5, to get Tua at No. 3. The Lions would likely jump on that offer — which is why the Alabama QB is the big favorite to go here.

But if the draft plays out with no trades, the Dolphins could get Tagovailoa at No. 5. The Lions and the New York Giants (No. 4) aren’t in the market for a QB. The Chargers have the No. 6 overall pick and could offer the Lions a deal, but the deal might not be sweet enough. The Chargers are reportedly big on Oregon QB Justin Herbert, and he could be there at No. 6.

The draft workout restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic have hindered teams from taking a comprehensive look at Tagovailoa’s hip, which was dislocated in a game vs. Mississippi State in November. He also had surgery on both ankles in college.

These are enough reasons to fade the favorite.

Who Do The Lions Take?

2020 NFL Draft: Odds & Top Pick For Who Is Taken At No. 3 2
If the Lions stay at No. 3, Ohio State cornerback Jeff Okudah checks all of the boxes.

The Lions have a lot of needs, but most notable is offensive line, defensive line and cornerback. They have the opportunity to take the top player at any of those positions at No. 3.

Cornerback is a big need. The Lions acquired former Pro Bowler Desmond Trufant but also traded away Darius Slay, who was even better. Even with Slay shutting down one side of the field, Detroit ranked 31st vs. the pass.

Okudah is big, physical and checks every box in terms of Coach Matt Patricia’s preferred CB attributes. Detroit isn't going to contend unless it dramatically improves the pass defense, and adding Okudah helps immediately.

Okudah’s odds right now are worth backing. Make your bet now at PointsBet.
