One of the premiere games of the week will feature the 2-2 49ers taking on the 4-0 Arizona Cardinals. The Cardinals might be the biggest surprise in the NFL so far, though maybe not to savvy Arizona sports betting fans who jumped on early.

The Cardinals dominated the Rams in Los Angeles in Week 4 and that game sent shockwaves around the league. The 49ers have now dropped back-to-back games and are looking to avoid another divisional loss on Sunday. Who will be the quarterback for San Francisco when they take the field on Sunday? All signs point to rookie Trey Lance, who looked good in limited action last week. But can he knock off the Cardinals in his first career start? That seems like a tall task.

To get you ready for this NFC West matchup, here is everything you need to know from an NFL betting perspective going into Week 5.

49ers vs. Cardinals Key Matchups

Cardinals WR DeAndre Hopkins vs. 49ers CB Dre Kirkpatrick: The 49ers have been decimated at cornerback, but it will be Kirkpatrick likely drawing Hopkins in coverage. That should be a big advantage for Arizona.

49ers LT Trent Williams vs. Cardinals EDGE Chandler Jones: Jones recorded 5 sacks in Week 1, but none since. Williams is arguably the best offensive tackle in the NFL and should be able to contain Jones in this matchup.

49ers TE George Kittle vs. Cardinals FS Budda Baker: Kittle and Baker are two of the best football players in the NFL. But look for the Cardinals to use multiple players to slow down the former All-Pro tight end.

49ers vs. Cardinals Key Stats

1: The Cardinals have the top-ranked scoring offense in the NFL, averaging 35 PPG.

1-5-1: The 49ers’ record ATS in their last 7 games against the Cardinals.

1-4: The Cardinals’ record ATS in their last 5 games against NFC West opponents.

4: Wins by the 49ers in their last five road games.

6: Times the OVER has hit in last 7 home games for the Cardinals.

49ers vs Cardinals Player Props

49ers QB Trey Lance to score anytime TD (+175 at DraftKings): ) The expectation is that Lance will get his first career start and that Kyle Shanahan will use his athleticism to their advantage. Lance already has one rushing touchdown this season and should get multiple opportunities in this game to add to that total.

49ers WR Deebo Samuel over 3.5 rushing yards (-115 at DraftKings): ) The 49ers will want to make life easy on Lance, meaning they will try to do whatever they can to move the ball on offense. Samuel already has five carries this season and should be a lock to get multiple jet-sweeps or reverse handoffs in this one. This feels like an absolute lock to hit in Week 5.

Cardinals RB Chase Edmonds over 40.5 rushing yards (-115 at DraftKings): ) Edmonds has averaged 10.8 carries per game this season and has averaged nearly 6.0 yards per attempt. Assuming he gets his usual workload, he should be a lock hit the over once again. He’s one of the league’s most explosive backs and only needs a few carries to get 41 or more yards in this game.

49ers vs. Cardinals Moneyline

Eventually, the Cardinals are going to lose. They are the last undefeated team in the NFL, but are they really going to lose to a rookie quarterback making his first start at home? Probably not.

The 49ers are likely to have some success on offense in this game. as Trey Lance can move the ball both with his arms and his legs. However, the 49ers have too many injuries on defense and likely won’t be able to cover all of the weapons for the Cardinals in Week 5. Despite not a ton of value, the Cardinals (-235) on DraftKings is the play, as they should be able to win this game.

49ers vs. Cardinals Point Spread

Heading into the season, the 49ers were the favorites to win the NFC West and were among the favorites to win the Super Bowl. But now, they sit at 2-2 and are 5.5-point road underdogs in Week 5. However, that line feels a bit high considering the 49ers are still extremely talented. They have the No. 7 offense in the NFL this season, averaging just under 27 points per game. Their rushing attack and pass rush should do enough to keep them in this game.

It will likely be up to Lance late in this game if he can pull out the win. And as we always mention, divisional games tend to be close games, especially between two good teams. Take the 49ers WynnBET, but be sure to shop around for the best NFL spreads as it’s likely to keep shifting throughout the week.

49ers vs. Cardinals Totals

Both of these teams can put up points in a hurry via the air or the ground. But how will a rookie quarterback fare in his first start? Is it really fair to expect him to score in the mid-20s against a 4-0 divisional opponent? Probably not, but the 49ers are a unique team in which the quarterback doesn’t need to be great for the offense to put up points.

Look for the Cardinals to be their typical high-scoring self in this game and for the OVER to hit in this game between two NFC West juggernauts. Go with the Over at BetMGM, but consider shopping around on your favorite betting apps and sportsbooks, as this total varies from site to site.
