A critical AFC West showdown looms on Monday Night Football as Philip Rivers and the Los Angeles Chargers face Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in Mexico City.

PICK 1: Chargers +4

The Chiefs have dominated the Chargers, covering in four of the last five meetings overall. But while Mahomes will do what Mahomes will do, KC has lost four of six, giving up 35, 31 and 31 points in the last three defeats.

The Chargers can sling it and now run it with Melvin Gordon back to his old form. L.A. is also among the NFL’s top defenses against tight ends. If the Chargers slow down Travis Kelce, that’s huge.

PICK 2: Under 52 Points

This is the highest total of the week, and it’s a little too high. For as high-scoring as Chiefs games are, they still average 49 ppg over the last six weeks. The Chargers can score, too, but success is predicated by their defense, and the total has averaged just 39.6 over the last seven weeks. Look for L.A. to control tempo as much as it can.

PICK 3: Highest-Scoring Half – First

Chargers games average 20.4 ppg in the first half and 19.1 in the second half. Not a big disparity. But then look at Chiefs games: the first halves average 29.5 ppg, the second half just 22.8. Both teams, more often than not, have scored more of their points in the first half, and allowed most of their points in the first half.

PICK 4: Second Half – Chargers ML

The Chiefs get off to a hot start and often overwhelm opponents in the second quarter to build leads. But they’ve allowed a whopping 17.3 ppg over the last three weeks and have been outscored in the second half overall this season. The Chargers are a second-half team, outscoring opponents by 3.3 ppg.

PICK 5: Most Punts - Chiefs

The line here is outrageous. The Chiefs average just 3.1 punts per game, second-fewest in the NFL. The only team that punts less often: the Chargers, at 2.9 per game. Anything could happen that pushes one team over the other in this prop, but the odds are skewed so strongly to one side. KC offers considerable value.
