The Carolina Panthers hoped to make a big jump in the NFL standings for 2024. Suffice it to say, it hasn’t happened and it isn’t going to happen. Carolina is 1-7 on the year and ranks 29th in offense and 31st on defense.

The Panthers will reportedly be sellers at the Nov. 5 trade deadline, and WR Diontae Johnson is at the top of the list. The former 1,000-yard receiver for the Steelers managed just one reception for 17 yards in the team’s latest setback, a 40-7 embarrassment at Washington.

Bookies.com veteran oddsmaker Adam Thompson has surveyed the NFL landscape and revealed his next-team NFL odds for the veteran receiver.

Johnson is in the final year of a contract, so cap concerns won’t be a sticking point for most teams. Johnson may want to lock in a long-term deal before getting moved, but he could also use the move as an opportunity to play for a contender and prove he can be a leading contributor to a productive offense. Carolina would be smart to get what they can now for the future free agent.

The Houston Texans looked to be on solid ground at the receiver spot, but injuries have changed that. Nico Collins, who led the NFL in yards, has missed the last two games, and now Stefon Diggs (knee) is feared to be out for the season, or at least a decent chunk of it. The Texans need a new pass-catcher and Johnson can be that guy.

The Los Angeles Chargers have a top-tier defense, but the offense has been a disaster, and now Quentin Johnson is battling an ankle issue. Justin Herbert needs someone to throw to if the Chargers are to boost the offense and stay in the hunt. They also have the funds to consider a long-term extension.

Other Possible Destinations

The Arizona Cardinals have the third-most cap space right now for 2025, and at 4-4 are tied with the 49ers and Seahawks atop the NFC West. The team ranks 27th in passing, so adding a potential playmaker could be a big deal for Kyler Murray.

The Denver Broncos have exceeded expectations with rookie Bo Nix at QB. But the pass game still ranks just 29th. Adding someone for Nix could be a huge boost, similar to the Chargers and Cardinals.

The San Francisco 49ers must move on without Brandon Aiyuk. Johnson could be a great half-season rental.

The New England Patriots and Las Vegas Raiders currently have zero playmakers in the pass game. Neither is fighting for a playoff berth, but the teams rank first and fourth, respectively, in future cap space, each with over $100 million to spend for 2025. Perhaps Johnson and one of those teams can agree to the long-term deal the WR seeks.

The Field is led by other teams with an immediate need for a future one with cap space to use up, including the Washington Commanders, Tennessee Titans and Jacksonville Jaguars
