The Philadelphia Eagles won the NFC East division in 2019 and advanced to the postseason for the third year in a row. But for Philly to get back to the Super Bowl – and become a better NFL betting value – the team needs to add pieces.

The Eagles own the No. 21 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft and they could go in a multitude of directions. FanDuel has posted odds as to which rookie Philadelphia adds with its first-round draft pick.

What the Eagles Need

One can quickly surmise based on the players on the NFL futures betting odds chart that the No. 1 priority for Philadelphia is improving at wide receiving. Alshon Jeffery leads the depth chart but he has been a pass-dropping disappointment in three seasons with the team. DeSean Jackson, the team’s top playmaking speed threat, is coming off core muscle surgery and will be 34 years old this fall.

The Eagles have signed nobody in free agency, so adding a reliable weapon at the draft for Carson Wentz to go alongside one of the league’s premier tight ends in Zach Ertz and a budding running back in Miles Sanders is critical.

There are other needs, but using the No. 21 overall pick on any of them might not work. The Eagles need a top-tier cornerback but the best of the best will be gone by then. They could use depth at safety, but talent there should be available later. A playmaking linebacker is an outside possibility.

Who Will Be There At No. 21

For teams really needing a receiver, the 2020 NFL Draft is the perfect place. As many as seven wideouts are considered first-round targets. At 21, the Eagles sit in a good spot to get an immediate contributor for their most pressing need.

Oklahoma’s CeeDee Lamb and Alabama’s Jerry Jeudy are expected to be the top two WRs off the board, both likely before the Eagles pick – but that’s not a given. Another Tide receiver, Henry Ruggs III, has rocketed up the boards lately and LSU’s Justin Jefferson is in the mix as well.

If LSU wide receiver Justin Jefferson is available for the Eagles at No. 21, he should fit their needs.

The Pick

Jefferson is an overwhelming favorite for the Eagles at No. 21, but there’s a good reason for that. Philadelphia has to take a receiver early, and among the top-tier wideouts in the draft, Jefferson is most likely to be there when it’s Philly’s turn. He caught 111 passes last season from Joe Burrow and would be an immediate contributor for a team that needs it.

Looking for a big darkhorse? Queen, Jefferson’s LSU teammate, is a freakish athlete and ball hawk at linebacker. The Eagles need someone like that if they don’t bring back Nigel Bradham, who was released for cap reasons. If Philly believes it can wait one round to get a good receiver, Queen could get the nod.
